  1. Small update: I had forgotten my workflow so I had to re-acquaint myself with all the mod tools, as well as troubleshoot the 3DS Max to Assimilate pipeline. Troubleshooting old software like Assimilate with little remaining documentation can be very frustrating, but I've gotten it all working now. Thank you to people like Psyk0sith, Ashura, and Minilogoguy who have a wealth of information on this website already - I'd never figure this out without looking through your tutorials and posts.

I've successfully given the Geonosian Fighter proper LODs and fixed a few tag issues, as well mostly finished the effects for all vehicles. It should only be a week or two before I get all of it done and ready for testing if I have the free time.

  2. While playing as Jango on the Sith Lord difficulty, all the named Jedi on the Geonosis Arena map have infinite health and cannot be killed without cheats. I tried for a good 3 minutes to focus down one Jedi stuck in a corner with flamethrower, and they took it the whole time without so much as a damage grunt.

edit: I played through the mission again and I see what the intention was. However, what's bizarre is that you can kill Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme, and yet they'll show up in the cutscene later in the mission. This was what confused me initially as I thought that if you could kill the main cast, then you would have been able to take out everyone else without a special scenario.

  3. In the mission where you play as Yoda to fight Palpatine in the senate chamber, there's a second part of the fight which is a platforming mini-game.

The skybox of this room is a compilation of 6 screenshots taken from the map itself, which gives a really cool illusion of space that makes the mini-game possible.

However, when you look at the very bottom of the skybox, you'll notice the speaker's podium is both part of the map and the skybox simultaneously, which is jarring. I guess nobody expected you to look down?

I would suggest editing the bottom part with photoshop. It'd be less jarring to see a dark hole in the bottom of the map than the speaker's podium duplicated.

  4. I've been making stuff over the years and not finishing anything, as the story goes for most. This is probably because I haven't told anyone that I'm making things in the first palce, so I have no real motivation to finish them.

To stop myself from doing that, I'm making a WIP thread hopefully to force myself to finish what I start in a meaningful way.

Here's a few screenshots to give an idea:

Just as a note, the turrets are indeed pilotable vehicles. They're using the ATST code with the speed set to 0. They can turn while holding W or S and shoot. The geonosian cannon also tracks mouse movement up and down. The rider mechanics for these types of vehicles are buggy, sadly, since they get stuck in the animation you used before entering, and if you shoot the rider it won't hurt them.

The only things left for me to finish are the vehicle's stats, some effect work, and proper LOD integration for the fighter.

  5. I'd love to see a version of this released soon. I completely agree with the premise of this thread. Radiant is abysmal to work in on its own, and I'm much more used to 3D modelling programs. I can already see some excellent applications for this. It'll certainly make terrain look better for less effort (clearly showcased in the dunes video), and having the proper visuals and scale for 3D models will make them much easier to integrate seamlessly in the map.  Very good work.

  6. His jaw is a bit narrow and hit chin is too long. He sorta looks like "the Mask" in that he has exaggerated "handsome" facial features to the point where he looks silly. It's sorta like how Handsome Squidward no longer looks handsome because of how overdone his features are.

  7. GLMs have LODs as part of the mesh already. MD3's do not.

I read somewhere that having MD3's with LODs was as simple as creating the lower detailed model, then exporting it as "objectname_1.md3" etc and placing it right next to the original "objectname.md3" file. In engine, the game should know to replace "objectname" with "objectname_1" when viewing at a distance as it does for GLMs without any keys in the misc_model(_static) entity I'd hope.

How does it actually work? Please explain as if I had never done this before if you know.

  8. The only thing *technically* wrong about Gir's Revan is that it has too many polygons, which causes nasty visual issues if there are a significant number of polys being displayed at any one time. This is dubbed the "Medusa Bug." Other than that, it is absolutely spot on as to what Revan is, and there's nothing wrong with his artistic interpretation. Interperetation is bound to happen as artists in this medium are not supposed to replicate images with 100% accuracy. That's rather like expecting someone to copy an exact image of a painting using pastel crayons instead of paint AND without being able to measure exact proportions. In actuality, his Revan looks very accurate to the original sources, and I'm very confused about what people seem to think looks wrong. It wasn't until TOR and afterwards did Revan's image change. As of when this model was created, it is a great representation of what his image was in the kotor game.

  9. That's exactly why you can't say if it will be bad or good yet. You haven't seen anything. Assuming something is "bad" will inevitably become true for you. Just keep an open mind and wait and see before you judge it.

All I did was examine the marketing tactic. A worse assumption here is to think examining marketing tactics means I think that this game will be bad.

imo, I'm expecting this to be a good looking game that's fun for a month or two but overall disappointing. This is not an unfair discernment considering EA's track record in meddling with franchises.

Lack of gameplay updates doesn't mean people should be all like "OMG no gameplay updates! Let's kill 'em!". Everyone needs to just freaking wait and stop being so damn impatient. Why there is such a rush to know everything about everything is beyond me.

Did it ever occur to anyone that Battlefront isn't in a showable state gameplay-wise? Nope. No one wants to see crappy, unfinished gameplay.

This kind of attitude just doesn't cut it if you want a decent game from people you can't trust. "Just wait guys everything will be fine!" turns into waiting so long that you do nothing at all. By the time you're done waiting the game is done too. It's not impatience wanting a company to be honest with you. So far all EA has shown from DICE is positive, positive, positive. Their press is painting the game in a good light by SPECIFICALLY trying to. If a game is truly good, you can release both positive and negative information and the people, whom in this rare circumstance are thinking for themselves, will themselves paint the game in a good light without it being told to them. That's how press should work, but you know how these things are. Even though EA is a corporate giant who can afford to be honest even if it costs them a few pennies (though in the long run makes them more money by helping their image), they won't. How many times do you have to fall for the positive press brigade marketing you a game until you realize that this part of the gaming business is a scam?

Plus, they announced today that it will be released December 2015. That's over a year away. Clearly tons of work to be done before anything is shown.

People might be hurt by seeing something unfinished because they're not used to it. But in actuality, the pain they feel is GOOD because it's deprogramming them from thinking something has to be 95% finished before someone can show it to them! I don't care if something is "unfinished" or "clearly has tons of work to be done," because I take this into consideration and judge them on the merits of what they have AT THE TIME, not just what I expect the finished product to be. Something might be really bad early on, and that's a good reason why to show people so it can be changed in a better direction. These games SHOULD be for the people that play them, but they're not, as evidenced by the consumer having no say in what the product looks like. Instead, you're expected to accept whatever a company gives you on the fallacious logic that "they're the developers, they know better than you about what you want."

  10. Here's the problem, DT. We've literally only 'SEEN' DICE have impressive quality.

All that we've 'SEEN' are pretty trailers, nice renders in engine, and words with positivity and enthusiasm.

Other than that, we know absolutely NOTHING about how this game is going. EA does this purposefully. They tell you nothing about the actual development, don't give you anything about the game that can be critically examined and critiqued before release, then give you the game however it is on release. By keeping information at a bare minimum, you have no actual knowledge of what goes on, cannot critique these companies while there's still time to change direction, and are expected to buy these games based off of visual spectacles and promises.

How good a game looks is SECONDARY to how well a game plays, and how well a game plays isn't literally "seen" but felt as well. All you get from the marketing teams are superficial and NOT representative of how the game feels to play.

I'm tired of these bullshit marketing tactics. Stop falling for them.
