Hello again, for all those who are wondering where the main inspiration for the next three maps, well, the inspiration comes from an album: The Gallery by Dark Tranquility (Because I'm a fan of Metal Music), from this album I was inspired by its aesthetics to create the new environments that have been created and are in the process of being created:

Since 3 months ago, I have been working on these maps, well let's start with the presentation of them (Note: The credits section is updated every time there is a new update):

Two factor authentication on JKHub 🔒
Just a quick little update here for you guys. Due to a lot of security breaches and hacks that have been going on around the internet over the last year or so, and an uptick in spam posts recently, we've enabled two-factor authentication as an option for all accounts, and a requirement for all staff accounts. This won't necessarily fix the spam problem, but hopefully it allows users a little more security if they desire it.
If you aren't familiar with two factor authentication (also known as 2FA), or multi-factor authentication, it basically enables you to use a second method for confirming that it is you that signs in, by using another device or account that you have approved to use as an authentication method. Typically this is through an SMS or an authenticator app. The method we have enabled is the latter, authentication apps such as Google Authenticator (Android | iOS)and Authy (Android | iOS). Chances are you're using one of those apps already, so this should be easy for you. If you haven't and want to learn, check out this link for a quick explainer on that.
Visit the link below to enable 2FA on your JKHub account.

    Jedi Outcast turns 21! 🎂
In other news, this month marked the 21st birthday of Jedi Outcast, which isn't as exciting as the 20th, but in the States JK2 is old enough to legally drink, so raise a pint! 🍻 If you weren't around for the 20th anniversary last March, or you haven't gotten around to watching it yet or just live under a rock, last year I had the privilege of talking with a handful of the developers that were at Raven Software at the time and helped make Jedi Outcast.
The full interview was about 2 hours long, but if you want just a little taste of it, I do have a short little clip on my main YouTube channel below that's about 15 minutes if you want to just hear a bit to decide if you want to hear the full thing. It was really cool getting to hear them just reminisce about that time and see their passion for making that game. I plan on doing it again later this year for Jedi Academy too, fingers crossed, so subscribe to the channel or keep an eye here around August/September as we get closer to the actual 20th anniversary for Jedi Academy.

    Ideas for Jedi Academy Anniversary💡
Speaking of Jedi Academy, if you guys have any ideas for ways to celebrate the 20th anniversary that are feasible to do, let me know. Is there a specific kind of contest you want to see? Is there any interest in some kind of server meet up or event someone has in mind to help with? There's only so much I can do on my own, so any help or ideas would be welcome. Leave in the comments below or contact me directly.

    :: Greetings Programs ::

In 2010, a movie released that has been under appreciated in my (and others) opinion.  However, after seeing Tron Legacy in IMAX, and subsequently several times after that - the idea of taking this digital frontier and applying it to Jedi Academy has never left me.  As part of the School of War server, I knew that many aspects of this movie tied directly into the pathos of our community.  It's been 13 years since that film debuted, but the reality of a map combining the rich visual aesthetics and contrasting elements is now becoming a reality.  Thanks in no small part to the people I have partnered with; the beginning of something truly revolutionary is coming to our server, and to the rest of the Jedi Academy community.  Welcome to the first stages of what we hope to be the fruition of dreaming of this for the last decade.

DISCLAIMER: Most of the screenshots shared here are not rendered in game, but are actually being rendered in Blender.  Through a number of techniques afforded to us by kind and expert modders in the community, we developed a pipeline to do the bulk majority of the world building in blender, and then transfer that to radiant, and eventually into the game.  Proof of concepts have been done multiple times so we are cutting down the limitations of Radiant, while also speeding up the process as Blender is a far more useful and easy medium to construct this vision.

    I. The Plan
Based upon the movie; Tron Legacy, the concept for this map is broken up into three distinct levels with multiple areas in each level.  The original concept had three levels.  That of the Outlands, The City, and the Underground.  While the outlands and the city were canon to the movie, the underground was an addition to offer some versatility to the map, and some of the normal features of rooms for events, training, and information.

This was the rough guide in putting together this masterpiece, and after some lengthy discussion and re-watching the movie several times - there was a clear direction in moving forward.  While my mapping partner and I were not fluent at all in the art of mapping for Jedi Academy, we are passionate about making this a reality, so we endeavored to learn by doing, and getting the amazing help of the mapping community through the process.  The following proof of concept has been put together to show you how we are making this map feel like the same experience we got in the movie.

    II. Proof of Concept
    Stage 1:
Upon loading the map for the first time, you are transported into the real world, outside of the Arcade.  Now for reasons of our server - the name of the Arcade has been changed to Red's.  This arcade will host a variety of well known arcade games from various eras, including cabinets we custom built for games that were never arcade machines to begin with.  Based off the layout of the original Tron movie, the arcade will be setup with an upstairs office/bedroom, along with a focal point arcade machine which acts like a secret door to venture down into the laboratory.  From there, access to the Grid will be through a computer terminal, which will transport the player to the Grid version of the Arcade's lower laboratory.

    Stage 2:
Once you emerge from the laboratory, you are now within the Cityscape of the Grid.  This will be a massive city sitting on a hexagon and replete with towering buildings all accented by ribbons of light, and in the center a massive structure that culminates in a stunning skyscraping tower, atop which features a night-club/lounge area.  A large highway system connects the surrounding quadrants of the city, and empties into a section of grid like streets that encircle the various buildings.  This is by far the largest area of the map, and will be an open-world of catwalks, ledges, buildings, and scenery that will immerse the player in the Tron experience.  Various vehicles will be either parked or on routine paths snaking around the city.  The presence also of a massive cruiser orbiting the city will also be of noteworthy exploration and discovery.

    Stage 3:
From the Grid, the player will have to journey between the city, the arena (featuring dynamic dueling pods), and a lightcycle (or swoop) grid, in which races, and battle royals can be accomplished.  A key structural destruction of the grid wall will allow players to access the outlands, and from there they will need to discover the hidden gems in this rocky and darkened terrain.  Eventually their path will lead them to a secluded oasis that holds the key to getting back to the Grid itself, and beyond to find the way back home.

    Stage 4:
Re-entering the city through a secret tunnel that leads into a long and winding canyon and eventually back into the city, the race is on to the Portal.  But first, the player must secure the disc in order to even use the portal, and for that, they need to reach to the pinnacle of the tower to that elusive End of Line club in the skies.  Traveling up an elevator to the peak of the spire, they will indulge in the lights and sounds of a Daft Punk inspired night-club, where they can explore the setting high atop the Grid.  Perhaps a bit of danger exists though, as the orbiting ship and some flybys of Recognizers are amid the sky as well, just waiting for an opportunity to strike.

    Stage 5:
Once you find the method to reach the cruiser that orbits the city, you'll eventually locate the Master Disc that will give you access to the Solar Sailor, and access to the Portal.  This train ride will take you through the rest of the outlands on a sky-high adventure reminiscent of the train level in base SP.  Eventually arriving at the Portal, to which you will use the Disc to portal out of the Grid and back to the arcade where your journey began, thus completing the circle of the map.

    III. Construction and Design
We are several months into the process for creating these levels and working on various aspects to get the aesthetic correct.  There's been a lot of talk with the modding community that has been an invaluable help to us about shaders, culling, clipping, and light mapping.  We're figuring things out as we go, and jumping back and forth between the various areas we'll have.  You'll notice we haven't really touched on any parts of Level 2, and that's because it's an unfinished idea of what we want, though we do have some models already set that we'll be making use of.

We still have a great amount of work ahead of us, but we are enjoying the journey.  We wanted to post this first post of the thread just to show you what we're doing, and where we are currently at.  We'd love to get feedback from the community and see what you think, and how we might even improve on this vision.  We do have a Discord server specific to this project, so if you are interested in joining that, we can talk about that opportunity should you express interest in it.  We'll keep you appraised here with sporadic updates as they come to light on this thread.  Thanks for your time, and happy trails program!

  6. Circa liked a post in a topic by Linken in No Progress Report for March
    Hey everyone!
So as the title said, there is not going to be a progress report for the month of March. The reason for this is because over the course of this month and February, I have been in the process of moving. There have been other factors which have distracted me from working on this wonderful mod which I'm not comfortable (or permitted) to talk about, but long story short this month has been ridiculous.
With the reality of the move setting in, especially now that as of writing this I will be moving at the end of next week, all gears have been shifted to packing up my home and the mod (and even gaming in general) has been an afterthought.
After the move is completed, I will be back to work in full swing.
To give a quick summary of the progress made this month. The 2nd gameplay level of Operation: Knightfall's remake is completed and both the 1st and 2nd levels are currently undergoing script overhauls which shouldn't take too long.
Lwkill has been hard at work at the long-awaited Escape from Theed mission and Basil Bonehead and I had the opportunity to play the level. We had a lot of fun with this first playthrough and think it's a very well designed representation of the level from the Episode 1 game.
Again, I'm sorry about the lack of a detailed report for this month and I hope the April one will be more exciting.
Also don't forget that our April Fools event will be live for one day on April 1st with a small alteration to Darth Maul's extended ending story with Duel of the Fates!
Again I'm sorry for the lack of report, but life happens.
Thank you for following the development of Star Wars: Galactic Legacy, and may the Force be with you.
TL;DR: Process of moving has made working on the mod difficult and I should be back to normal in April. Knightfall and Escape from Theed are coming along well and both have hit milestones in development.
  7. Circa liked a post in a topic by SomaZ in Rend2 - A Modern Renderer
I just released the first verison of rend2 in a very long time. I've been busy with fixing and reworking alot of things. The weather system is fully functional now as also alot of other things.

You can grab the latest release here:
    https://github.com/SomaZ/OpenJK/releases
    Changelog:
    - MSAA antialisaing cvar changed to r_ext_multisample which is the same as in the vanilla openjk renderer
    - Added external hdr lightmap support
    - Added autoload of images with following suffix "_specGloss", "_rmo" and "_orm"
    - Realtime sun shadows won't flicker anymore when the player is moving around
    - Some fixes regarding the HDR rendering pipeline (means rendering in hdr colors, but there's no HDR display support (and never will because OpenGL))
    - Thanks to @Almightygirfor contributing a velvet shader (you can use it per shader stage, just add a 'cloth' to it (same as with glow or detail)) and fixes regarding pbr shading
    - Added a shader stage keyword to "pull out" parallax mapped surfaces ('parallaxBias [0.0 ... 1.0]', you can easily test this with r_forceParallaxBias [0.0 ... 1.0])
    - Added mikkTSpace for normal mapping (means baking normal maps in blender or substance will result in the same shading in rend2 now)
    - Fixed rendering cloud layers
    - Fixed wrong camera exposure on maps with sky portals
    - Fixed alot of problems regarding fog
    - Added flare rendering back
    - Added most features back to surface sprites (only thing missing afaik is wind handling, swaying is implemented though)
    - Speed up rendering dynamic lights with parallax occusion mapped surfaces by alot
    - Added distortion rendering back (invicibility sphere, push/pull sphere)
    - Added glass shattering back
    - Added ghoul2 sabermarks back
    - Added r_showTris 1 back
    - Fixed a crash regarding md3 model caching
    - Lots of other small things
I think that's all for now.

This month hasn't been the most exciting, but we're still getting closer to our goal!
    OPERATION: KNIGHTFALL
Progress continued on the Operation: Knightfall remake. Recently the 2nd gameplay level of the remake has been released to the team for testing. So far initial testing has shown promise, though there are a number of bugs to be ironed out. However, these bus should be fixed very quickly and we can move on to the 3rd gameplay level very soon.
The Operation: Knightfall remake is designed to show off areas of the Jedi Temple never seen before or only hinted at in other novelizations. Though some locations will bring you to familiar areas, other areas of the temple may not be so easily recognizable.

    MORE CHARACTERS
We also spent some time this month gathering up more characters for you to play with, here's a small list of them that should be coming to the mod in the next update.
Narkina V Imperial Officer Kino Loy Narkina V Prisoner Grohto Darth Krayt (Updated Model) Naboo Guard (Battlefront) Hanharr 8t88 Vana Sage Skohani Ren Eleena Daru Kaevee Rebel Vanguard Rebel Smuggler As always, we're always looking for new characters, if you have any suggestions, please post the character you'd like to submit along with a link to the character.
    COMMUNITY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
I'd like to attempt to interact with the community more often, so this month I'll be taking any questions and will answer every single one in the March progress report. If you have any questions for us (or want to ask something silly), please fill out the below Google form.
If we get plenty of questions from the community for next month's report, we'll keep going!
    LINK: https://forms.gle/PANTQw8MGBuad8wr5
    CONCLUSION
This month hasn't been the most active one as substantial changes have occurred in my personal life which have prevented me or exhausted me to the point where I couldn't work on the mod as much as I'd like to. The month of March will likely be the same with things hopefully settling down by the end of the month.
I will continue my side of development during this time as best as I can, but please understand if the next progress report is lacking in content.
Regardless, thank you for following the development of Star Wars: Galactic Legacy, and may the Force be with you.

The winners have been chosen! I said I may end up choosing more than one if we got some good ones I really liked, and that definitely happened. Thank you to all of the artists that submitted. Even if you didn't technically win, I may still use your work for other things, so you may win in some small way anyway.
Keep in mind the banner art will be changed periodically so if you don't see yours in there now, your art will have its turn. 🙂
The two main winners are @ZelZel and @BenSlzak for the below two entries!
    Kyle vs Desann/Tavion                                                                                  Temple's Dawn

Here are the rest of the submissions if you'd like to see the others, links in the spoiler tag. They are all really great and I'm excited to have some good material for banners, social posts, etc. going forward!

Hopefully this was a nice little break from the usual mod contests and allowed for the resident artists to flex a little. We will definitely have more of these types of contests! More art makes the world beautiful. 🖌️

    - added a possibility to search in server list page
    - added a possibility to preview nickname in settings page
    - added a setting to set encoding for Jedi Academy in settings page
    - some fixes to properly run the iOS app on macOS on Apple Silicon
After trying the application, please, leave a feedback of what you'd like see in the future. Yes, you can request any feature you want.
It's not necessarily to be only limited to chat, I could implement other game features. Probably everything is possible that doesn't require game assets.
Also if you encounter any error, then please report me either in the feedback form in TestFlight or in this JKHub post or in JKHub PM or on discord PM: ent#9404.
Report the error either by copying it or taking a screenshot and showing me or just telling the steps to reproduce.

It’s no secret that older games are increasingly harder to get into, especially as support for them on modern systems continues to dwindle down and the more steps you have to take to get them to work properly continues to rise. Then, once you get the game running, you are taken aback by the graphics after being used to playing the latest AAA games and immediately go hunting for mods to enhance the graphics and experience to help you enjoy your time. Or maybe you literally have no idea how to play the game, but enjoy it enough to learn more about getting better. Well, here is some basic info to hopefully make all of that easier when it comes to Jedi Academy.
This game is turning 20 years old this year, and it is still one of the greatest Star Wars games of all time with an active modding and player community. I took some time making a video and written guide on all of the basics of getting started with Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy in 2023. Keep in mind this is geared towards new or returning players, so it is meant to be as simple as possible. Watch the video below or read the written guide at the bottom below that.
