I suppose that you could import that ase into Blender using Wonko's tools, and then export that terrain ase as patch work, only specify the target shader as clip. That would be unspeakably crazy though, considering it creates a patch for each triangle. I remember trying that a long time ago for an ase conversion, and it worked. Not sure how it would fare on something massive.

Yes. Humor first though and try compiling with simpler light options. Such as no patchshadows. You should be able to remove the lomem switch without the other switches enabled. I can't imagine it being all that crazy without patch shadows on.

These are good points. Instead of contests, with various flavors that would be hard to adequately judge, you could do more community events. I mean like the Secret Santa, or the White Elephant. Just on a less complicated scale, with 30 days forewarning. How you would include competitive players in this, I do not know. There are a great number of things that tutorials could be written about, but maybe not JK specific. For instance, some one may know some very handy tricks in Photoshop, then again that software is expensive and a very specific skill set. Another question. Its one thing to pitch a bunch of ideas and get excited about them, but does the staff currently have the energy and motivation to WANT to see them through? I'm just saying, I know what that is like from a personal perspective. Don't mean that as an attack.

Do you not have a shader entry for common/caulk? You could of just done that. Copy and past the one for system/caulk, replace system with common, save the shader file. Way easier than doing a find/replace on every old map file.

I like the manner in which Vader tosses the Rebel. I DONT WANT THIS FUCKING BAGEL ANYMORE.

Having a duplicate of your file in no way invalidates anything I just said. You're still likely to create additional errors without realizing it in the copy, and be no further than you were. You are suggesting that he look through a map file in a text editor for an error, when he has no idea what the error is; If there even is an error.

Don't do this. ^ It is not advisable. You'll likely fuck up something in notepad without realizing it. It's generally a bad idea unless you know precisely what you are looking for. Try turning off patch shadows in your light compile, along with -lomem for now. It shouldn't crash with patchshadows off. You could also upload the .map and send me a message containing a link and I can have a quick peak for obvious problems.

Radiant has nothing to do with any converting. Q3Map2 does that. It doesn't even need access to any of the textures in order to decompile a level. I'm guessing that your problem is something else that you accidentally fixed without realizing it. Most likely whatever .bat file you were using wasn't pointed correctly at q3map2, the directory and filepath of the map you were attempting to decompile, or did not have -game ja in the switches. I literally have no texture assets from JKA anymore on this computer, yet just decompiled a copy of FFA1 in my GTKRadiant 1.4.0 folder.

Is g_allownpc set to 1?

I did say contributing . I meant simply BEING a staff member shouldn't be an award, if you are going with an award system. That is a little.... weird.

I voted no on a couple things, and yes on one but with a caveat. I have work in 30 minutes so I'll keep it brief. -Mod Specific tutorials: I feel like these would turn into advertisement for specific server mods really quickly, and that the server management section should cover that. -Tutorial Submission Days. I don't think, (No offense intended whatsoever) the current moderator team has a good enough pool of knowledge to judge when someone is submitting bad information that could be detrimental if used too widely. For instance, a tutorial on VIS optimization might be half greek to you guys, but be completely wrong. -Award System. I voted yes, but I think it should be restricted to mainly contributing and or modding. No offense intended once again, but I don't think simply being staff or former staff would fit well into that. I'd rather see staff and former staff receive recognition based on the modding they have done, the amount of files they worked to get on the site and so on.

If you have a log of the compile, that would be greatly beneficial. I'm guessing this happened in the -light stage? What switches are you using in the light compile? How large a level are we talking? Details details details!

I never downloaded the WaW mod tools, but you should check them out. I have no idea what sample maps Treyarch included. Asylum could be there.

There are very few people I know professionally that do not have one setup and ready to go in case they need to apply for a job. There are a few specific situations where a portfolio wouldn't make sense, such as a Tool Engineer or similar. Still, you'd have a really good resume setup some where. A quick Wordpress is a favorite for a lot of people.

You sure do pull a great deal of meaning that was never even remotely implied when I responded with one sentence. I was expressing incredulity that the quote was even remotely real. If it was real, than my question had the dual purpose of attaining the persons name so I could simply discuss their point of view about the matter personally. Which you could of chosen simply to not respond to, or even send me a personal message with requested information. Instead, you chose to step through the door of ignorance and arrogance by expressing the following. I did not directly insult you, or assert that I knew more than you. Out of shear ignorance you continued to engage into this discourse of stupidity, to which I chose not to directly respond because you are clearly an idiot. Without even having had responded to you, you continued to shift focus off yourself by using me as a target of your defensively caustic bullshit. Asserting that your own experience trumps anything I could possibly say. Please, by all means show me your extensive portfolio and I will immediately give you my personal and sincere apology for questioning the validity of your claims. I deigned to respond because your moronic rambling is starting to aggravate me. Not sure what senility has to do with this conversation at all. Additionally, I brought up your IQ simply to mock you, seeing as you think its a talking point when introducing yourself. Who condescends to who? Come on now. Hard work. I earned it. Yes, I recall you asking me questions about entity modding. Which means I can classify you as one of the idiots who tries to remain civil with me as long as you need something. Like help or assets. Please, point me to a single situation in which I have EVER linked anyone my portfolio as a means of gaining a point in an argument. I'll expand if you like. Please show me any place on the internet at all, (ANY WHERE YOU CAN THINK OF) that I've ever even linked my portfolio to some one in an attempt to contrast my work against there's as a form of criticism.

I truly enjoy how you don't seem to understand the topics at hand, or fully appreciate the objects under contention. Furthermore, you went off on a tangent regarding things that weren't even under discussion. I'd expect some one with a "195 IQ" to be much more able to assess the conversations themselves before pontificating randomly about things that no one was even discussing. However, please feel free to continue displaying and attempting to hide your embarrassment at making a fool of yourself by being caught in a multitude of falsehoods. Mr Genius, I have a degree and get work in in gaming but I don't have a portfolio to show anything.

The client version has no spawns in the bsp. If you want, you have my permission to open the entity coding and add some info_player_start to the BSP and play it on your own. Please don't host it though. It will not work correctly without the vast amount of other entity coding that the server version had anyway, and will cause no end of problems.

I've removed it from all servers. I think the regular ent mod edition is still around on some server some where.

kay I'm leaving this conversation as it has entered realms of silliness I didn't think previously possible.

In the interest of reiteration, I'll simply say again that I think that solution is the best. Neither side of the argument will be completely satisfied, which sounds like the definition of a good compromise to me. A good example are "plugins" made from base maps. Sure they are a build of a decompiled level, but usually this is done in the interest of adding a lot of content while allowing everyone to play on the server with original content without having to download anything. Example, what I did to FFA3 when I thought I was slick with Radiant. http://s466.photobucket.com/user/amanitaplaync/slideshow/Plugin I could certainly agree to something like that.

Everyone at Raven is an Activision employee. It is simply a matter of who you talk to. The guy 3 rows down from my say he is an Activision employee to everyone who asks and he would not be wrong. Even quoting without providing specific notation has repercussions with further communication, depending on who sees it and whether or not it can be proven to be some what true. If you work in the game industry as you claim, than you should know why.

You mean the jetpack animations that were originally[*] implemented for one level? Jesus Christ. They released SKDs, and externalized as much as possible in the design because they saw that people were excited about trying to mod Elite Forces. It was a deliberate decision to support modders and encourage the practice, in so far as they could do legally. Are you getting SDKs for recent titles? You have an overabundance of companies going out of their way to provide ease of access for modding? I didn't think so. Think before you post.

Complex lighting became an issue for me when I used a ton of shader based lighting with a lot of alpha shadow casting on surfaces. Yeah, making the lightmapscale higher at about 2 works well for that issue. Func_grouping geometry and then individual setting more detailed values is a small hassle, but worth it.
