Lamented Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Hey. My Fraps video is taking up a ton of GB on my computer and I'm wondering if it's possible to reduce it without affecting the quality too much? Or can I record a fraps video with a different program and have it still look good? Or convert it to a less sizeable format?
therfiles Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 You can always compress your files down to lower file sizes...how long are the videos you are capturing, out of curiosity? I haven't used FRAPS in a long time. I've used Dxtory and Action! (the free trials, so there was a watermark, but not too bad).
Lamented Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 The video is about 33 minutes. I want to downsize it even though it's already filmed.
Raz0r Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 You'll want to encode it using something like h.264I personally use Sony Vegas + x264vfw In the future, maybe record with MJPEG compression. I also recommend using MSI Afterburner instead of Fraps. It's free.
Sithani Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 You can easily compress the video file using VirtualDub
Didz Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 If you're on Windows, you can use MeGUI for transcoding your video to a nice compressed format that services like YouTube. You specify your input video file, and setup output encoding settings. Safe bets for the formats are h.264 for the video, and AAC for the audio. I use the Nero AAC encoder for the audio, but I can't seem to be able to find it on the Nero website anymore. With MeGUI, you can do batch processing so it can run over all of your videos at once. ent likes this
Circa Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 http://handbrake.fr/should do the job This. Works wonders. And I was not aware it was available on Windows now. Used to be Mac-exclusive.
