minilogoguy18 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 OK, I know there are tons of things out there concerning this terribly buggy game. It used to run no problem then for no apparent reason I went to try to play it and the process wont even start, it's as if I didn't even click on the .exe file, absolutely nothing happens. I've been googling for a solid week now trying various things with absolutely no success so I'm just going to ask here. Windows 7 Home Premium 64AMD Phenom II 840T quad coreRadeon HD5770 (rebranded as a MSI 5770 Hawk)16gb RAM1TB HDD with tons of free space Originally the only issue I had before was the lack of widescreen support, multicore issue fixed and the game ran fine. I didn't play it for about 6 months or so and now it just wont launch, reinstalling multiple times has done nothing, replacing the mss32.dll has done nothing either nor has using various compatibility mode options. I should also note this IS NOT the steam version, it's the original disc version NOT using any cracks or weird patches, full legit. Hope someone can point me in the right direction before I frisbee the CD's into the ocean out of anger...
Lamented Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Same thing happened to me when I had a hard disc, so I just got it on Steam and it worked fine. Dunno what to tell you, sry man. :/
Circa Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I had many issues with first getting this game to work on XP many years ago. I'm assuming you patched it with this and this? The second one is for Vista but I think it might work with 7 as well.
minilogoguy18 Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Neither works, the game used to run but for some reason it doesn't anymore.
Circa Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 That's strange. Have you tried XP compatibility mode?
minilogoguy18 Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Yes, tried most everything, it doesn't even try to run, you click on the .exe and nothing happens.
Solution Circa Posted December 8, 2013 Solution Posted December 8, 2013 I'm not sure what all you've tried but I can continue to post links to possible solutions. http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=194296 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/cannot-play-star-wars-knights-of-the-old-republic/5037891a-40fb-4a43-8d71-fe5f4a4417b1 When I tried getting Widescreen to work with my KOTOR 2, the same thing happened to me because I had to replace .dll with something else. But since you've tried reinstalling it completely, I'm not sure what to do about it. Hmm.
minilogoguy18 Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Thanks, that lucasforums fix worked, don't know why nothing like that showed when I googled kotor 2 wont launch.
Circa Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Thanks, that lucasforums fix worked, don't know why nothing like that showed when I googled kotor 2 wont launch.Really? Strange. I searched "kotor 2 windows 7" and it was the first result.
minilogoguy18 Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 The weirdest part of it all was that it USED to work fine, didn't play it for a while then decided I wanted to finish the game I had saved and it wouldn't run.
Kualan Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I'm going to reinstall KOTOR 2 and try out the Restored Content mod, and I'm on Windows 7 so a hearty thanks to the people who posted in this topic - I can beat the problems before they crop up! Circa likes this
Asgarath83 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Same for me. i love Kotor 2 and Kotor but if i re install Kotor 2 is really hard because i get ever "error CRC" and the installation go to hell. when the installation are completed, i clck on exe and not happened nothing. i have Windoes XP SP3 and an Ati radeon video card. emmm, someone can tell me how can i see in my control panel my system requirement? i ever forget. >.<
minilogoguy18 Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/01/03/the-fixer-how-to-restore-knights-of-the-old-republic-ii/ This worked great for me as well to get widescreen working, I'm using 1600x900, there is also a fix for the stretched hud out there as well as the map location icon.
Circa Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Nice, I'll have to use that next time I play through it.
