About This File

What is ModView?

ModView is a tool to view models used by Jedi Knight II and Jedi Academy. It was originally created by Raven Software and now being improved by the OpenJK developers.

ModView currently supports only .glm model format.

What's different?

The original ModView runs only on Windows. This ModView currently runs on Windows and Mac with some functionality disabled. Going forward, ModView will see more functionality restored, and changes to improve usability and to aid the process of getting models into JK2/JKA.

If you are able to run the original ModView on Windows without problems, I recommend people to continue using ithe original if you don't want any reduced functionality.

How to use

  1. Extract all the files to a folder of your choosing.
  2. Run ModView.exe (Windows) or Modview.app (Mac)

Known Issues

  1. Currently, some of the ModView features are missing as changes are made to add Linux and Mac support. These features will be added back in the future, along with improvements!
  2. Attached models don't show up in the control on the left side of the window.
  3. No way of adjusting the floor position

ModView doesn't make new animations. If you want to create animations, you would need a 3D modeling program like Blender, 3DS Max or Softimage Mod Tools.

Any normal zip compression program should work, have you tried Keka (based on 7zip)?

@Xycaleth where is the source code for this?  Bundled up with openjk?

@Xycaleth -- did you recompile this to work on Windows XP?

I guess I should have been more specific in the README about where it is. The repository is where the README points you to, and then go to modview-qt branch, then go to tools/ModView.

No, I won't be providing Windows XP support for now. The Qt libraries I use don't work under Windows XP and it's a pita to rebuild myself (the repository itself is 400MB, and takes a few hours to build). I want to move to a more lightweight GUI library at some point so I may consider XP support then. In any case, nobody should be using XP now.

The original works without any problems for me. On any Windows OS.

How to search for animations? In the old ModView, you could use Ctrl + F to search for animations.
