About This File

A single player project for Jedi Outcast set in the after the Battle of Yavin and before the Battle of Hoth. You take on the role of a Rebel agent sent to the Bajic Sector to explore an unknown outpost that has the top brass at the Rebellion interested.

*It is up to you, the player, to seek out the blank, "black textured" computer terminals to learn about what is going on here. Through this information you will be able to piece together the story. It is also up to you to take the time and look around to try and get an idea on what is going on.

*This project is best played w/ the Ultimate Weapons Mod using Low Quality Effects. Also, Hapslash's Imperial Officers and Stormtroopers pack is recommended to spruce up it up a bit.

*Weapons, ammo, health, and power ups are limited. There are no force powers or sabers. Ammo has also been reduced.

Does it work in Jk3 too?

No, I only own JO so that is what I made it for. I don't care for JKA, but, anyone can take this project and make the JA version of it as long as they contact me first.

I have no longer JO installed, though at one point I enjoyed it much better. Too bad the game says, one blaster md3 is missing, so I can't start the mission.

For a set of six maps its pretty good.Do you plan on making a sequel?

I'm not sure why it says that or it won't work. hmm... This has been tested by multiple users.

No, but someone else can as long as it follows my storyline and requirements. I'm going back to X Wing Alliance for a bit. I'm really tired of mapping.

One of the best SP level sets I've ever played. I can definitely see the Half Life inspiration in the way you designed these maps.

After staring at the antagonist for a few seconds, I began to see a Turkish doner kebab instead of a brain. XD

Ice Station Wampa. Its interesting how you named your levels: lev1 ...lev2...etc. never seen that before. And you named your original file apibitor. Is there something to that? I'm actually putting all your PK3s into the apibitor PK3 so its all one file. I'm going to try it now.....

I LOVE S/P anything. Your level(s) were linear but I didnt feel they were at first. More detail could have been added such as destroyable items and more droids. It was long too. I like exploring areas and figuring out how to get somewhere. G.J. Jeff. I want to know how you did your ladder climbs. Man I wish I could have done that option years ago for some levels I was doing. I think expansion or porting it to J.A. would be great.

It's system/ladder, but apparently in JA they're completely broken. Unless OpenJK fixed that, a port to JA doesn't seem likely.

Well, Ice Station Wampa  was a cross between the movie title Ice Station Zebra w/ Wampa replacing Zebra. It was SUPPOSED to be in a snowy world but I couldn't get the z-fighting to stop on my snowbanks on landing pads or walkways, so, things had to change. Also, Ice is a slang for meth, which, was originally what they were producing instead of tainted beer. So, A Plot is Brewing in the Outer Rim is a better title. The plot that is brewing is obvious for those that played it, and, brewing has a double meaning because of the beer and conceiving a plot.

I ran into many issues with MAX Shaders in regards to some of my maps. If I put one more NPC in I'd run into the error in some cases. That is why some areas were a bit empty NPC wise. However, I prefer this in games, like in Half Life, where you are not bombarded every turn and you have a chance to look about.

Linear was by design as well. I remember back when maps were called levels and there were level editiors. I guess that is why I chose what I did to name them. And to add what Ramikad said, you put a cushion brush at the bottom of the ladders as well. Basically, the game thinks you are falling which is why hear the grunt sometimes. So, that cushion brush basically stops you from getting hurt.

Congratulations, IrocJeff. Those levels look amazing. I love the attention to detail in them. Be sure to return to level, and SP mod-making (scripting) after your X Wing Alliance holiday, okay? :) You have a rare talent. Cheers.

When you make levels like this.... I definitely would keep mapping no matter what. I've been doing it for 12 years and enjoy teaching my kids how to map.

Thank you sir. I'm still going to hang around here. I'll be like that one guy on here that complains the Jedi are taking Ovah!.. lol

I just saw this uploaded on moddb, and I posted a short review, so I might as well post it here.

Just finished playing this and I feel like reviewing it. Ok, where do I start? I had a lot of fun playing this. The level design is pretty good and to the point, with no secret areas and it has a Half-life feel to it that makes me like it even more. The plot is kind of silly, but in a good way. There are some real life humorous references that made me giggle from time to time, though I'm not sure if everyone will be so cool about it, what with it not being part of the Star Wars universe and all. I found the enemies to be far deadlier than in the vanilla game, but maybe that's because I'm used to killing entire platoons in a few seconds with a lightsaber.
My only complaint would be the lack of music to add to the overall experience. I found that using the same dynamic music from the original game was effective, so if you ever release a sequel, you could re-release this mod with music as well, as long as using Star Wars music isn't illegal. You should also include a custom gamestart file next time. It's a simple thing, and some may not even notice you did it, but it adds to a profesionally made mod.
Overall, this is a fun, straightforward level pack that will especially please fans of classic FPS. The lack of music takes something away from the overall experience, but can be solved by opening the console and typing "music *desired level's name*". Definitely on par with base JO. 9/10

I can see how I may have come across as some kind of weirdo, but it's just that this is one of the best level packs I've played since JO came out, so I felt compelled to post that short "review". I also had been meaning to create a JKhub account for quite some time.
That's a cool shirt you're wearing right now

I was just kidding..and welcome aboard!

This project of mine would NEVER have been completed without being a member here. People here try and help and that makes it a great place for JO and JA modding.

Just played through it, well done! Found a few missing textures, didn't bother to take a snapshot though.

It works in JA if you add the necessary missing model to the base folder of the game. In case of ladders however, you will have to use cheats, otherwise the game crashes. I never tried ladders in JO mapping, how does it look like anyways? I mean, was there any kind of animation, etc?

Too bad they removed this stuff from JA :(

That's neat that it works. Maybe we can get more JKA people to playtest it further with this one change.

There is no animation for the ladders, but, this is designed for first person perspective so its a non issue in my opinion. The problem I didn't foresee was needing to cheat since ladders aren't enbabled in JKA. Surfaceparam ladder is what needs to work in JKA, somehow.

I'm guessing the ladders can be replaced w/ elevators for the JKA version if need be.

Installed outcast the other day, I'll be sure to try this out. I've been watching you develop this map concept for a while and I look forward to it.
May I have the source files to learn from?

I have been developing a single player game for awhile, you can never have enough reference materials and tutorials!

They are already included under "project maps" or "original maps" or something. I forgot what I named them. If you have any specific questions about anything just send me a message here or e-mail me.

Jedi Outcast is bad as shooter, but I like that still has people who are dedicated to making mods for JA and JO.

as i was lucky and got the whole jedi knight bundle at a 70% discount today on steam, i decided to play around a bit with jedi outcast once again, i usually play every release i can get my hands on for outcast and academy. i'm personally a fan of saber duels, but i did not lose my interest when i saw the lack of these in this mod. i should say i enjoyed these levels much more than the ones in the official game where i had no lightsaber. it was a miracle that i managed to not die at once throughout the maps but i was really close to it sometimes. this gives away the fact how splendid resource management is. i found the presence of objects of our world a bit bothering, i guess they were there for joke or fun, they just didn't fit the environment (like the cola-machine, etc.), and also the story was not meant for the star wars universe. however this was just said because there's no perfect mod in the world. a definite 10/10 for me, i don't know if you plan on a sequel, maybe you should take what i've said into consideration, but i'll be satisfied enough if it goes on this way as i've witnessed :) oh one thing, next time please add more weapons :c good job!

Sorry for the late reply. Ahem.

I'm glad you enjoyed them more than the original JO maps. I did, too. hehe. I really took a lot of inspiration from Black Mesa for some areas. I did not have the skills to make models and textures of Star Wars-ish soda machines and stuff so I just used some artistic license. It was supposed to be a secret originally but I put real world stuff in for the heck of it.

I am working on something new but not a sequel. This will also push peoples buttons a bit as well. Don't worry, you'll like it.
