  1. In ext_data/vehicles all three are there: swoop.veh, swoop_mp.veh, and swoop_mp2.veh... Cheats are active... I really don't understand it. Why is it saying that it can't spawn them?
  2. I'm using the console in on the map to which a script is attached. Hitting up the spawn code produces the same error, though. Thanks @@eezstreet, I'll check the .veh file. The model's there for sure. For you guys, does pressing the terminal/console in-game on the swoop track on this map spawn a swoop successfully?
  3. Skin shading in Photoshop is killing me... >.<' I'd take modelling over texturing anyday!

No, I've watched many tutorials, but I've taken a mosaic approach now -- cutting and assembling a rough draft before painting the final textures. It's a pain in the butt, but it's the easiest way I could think of. I really want to finish this model already...

I imagine working with ZBrush is somewhat easier.

Or substance Painter which is what I use :

it takes some technical knowdledge to adapt the output PBR maps to JKA's old shader system

I used Pig Brain's tutorial when I did my head, but I guess the basic principles could apply to the rest of the body.

  4. Base, retail JK3 and OpenJK. (Multiplayer) It just says that the swoop can't be spawned, even though a vehicle model by that name is present in the asset archives, and I have absolutely no third party vehicle mods installed. ERROR: Couldn't spawn NPC swoop_mp2So it's just me, then? It's very mysterious... I don't understand... Having cheats enabled doesn't seem to make a difference either.
  5. George Lucas sold Star Wars, let's not forget that. The stories of he EU, they were not all his creation, but ultimately they were approved by him, and they became well-known Star Wars lore. It is this tradition and lasting impact of the established lore on the fan-base that should be counted as "canon", not what the next movie director or production company randomly decides to make canon.
  6. https://jkhub.org/files/file/162-sjc-coruscant-adventures-pack-night-and-day/ For some reason the vehicle spawning on the swoop track has never worked for me, not matter what version of Jedi Academy I am using. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a fix for it?
  7. @@Azatha, a word of advice: get used to working with many different software when modelling and rigging. It's a good idea to stay flexible like that. You will often find better tools to accomplish the same tasks in other software. It helps get things done better and faster. Software are the tools of this trade; the more useful tools you have and know how to work, the better. Someone wise here taught me that. And @@mrwonko, you're a legend! Thanks so much for caring for the community. (Your plugin has helped me when I was really stuck with weighting. I'm forever grateful.)
  8. Aren't the licenses version dependent? Money saving is a good reason to feel content with an older version. Also, some might prefer the older UI for work.
  9. All this canon and non-canon is driving me mad... It's going to create such a chaos in Star Wars storytelling... Having the different characters take on the same role in the Star Wars timeline is the worst idea possible. I can understand having to ignore some of the events in lesser known EU stories, but they should have at least kept the more prominent characters and events, like Kyle Katarn, Mara Jade, the Solo kids, Ben Skywalker, and Luke's Yavin IV Jedi Academy. This way it's gonna be a big mess for anyone who's known Star Wars from the beginning. But I'm taking this thread off topic... (I'm just so angry with how Disney managed this!)
  10. I can totally understand your dilemma. Heck, you can't even buy Windows 7 in stores anymore! If I had to choose between Windows 8.1 and 10, though, I'd choose 8.1. But both are shit for work, but at least with 8.1 you can ignore the app stupidities because of the dual design -- and it works like 7 for the most part. With 10 you're forced right into the app fiasco. I predict it will be a total nightmare to work with it.
  11. From a marketing perspective it doesn't make a lot of sense to create an entirely new game with new characters and label it a part of the Jedi Knight series (which has always been associated with Kyle Katarn), but I would love to see a modern take on the free-form gameplay mechanics (and lightsaber control) of JK in a new Star Wars game released with today's technologies. I think there is great potential in that. If they could accomplish what they did with Quake 3, can you imagine what they could accomplish today?! Sword-fighting in a Star Wars video game could be taken to a whole new level, especially if care was taken to balance the mechanics well.
  12. Well, yes, pretty much. *nods* I have and I will. It'd be nice to see more RP communities with an open and friendly approach, without bossing around. Where people have an equal chance to play. I find restrictive behaviour quite deterring from a good role-playing experience. It's always a shame when the story fun potential is wasted on personal bickering and play of authority. Also, I think the rise in role-playing interest/activity is an indication that there is an overall rise on JK interest/activity, which, again, is nice to see.

To be perfectly honest, I've never run into JK3 mods made specifically for Mac before. The biggest problem for me with JK3 on Mac has been that most mods are made for Windows, utilising DLLs which are overlooked by Mac. Otherwise, if they are not using a DLL or a custom built launcher, every mod is universal, and not architecture dependent. 32-bit/64-bit relates only to executable content (binaries) from my understanding. Isn't that the case? How many Mac binary based mods do we know?
  14. True, but I haven't found such a plugin for 3DS yet. I've used Blender as well and (I think) your plugin to study the weights on Raven's and Haps' models. The plugin worked fine for me, though, with Blender v. 2.68. Before that I had downloaded a later version and there were bugs with that one. Maybe try version 2.68, @@Azatha.
  15. Not if you're related to Captain Jack Sparrow. Then you don't need the money, just your good looks. Fair enough. That sounds like a good reason to stick with Blender, in that case.
  16. Hahaha! Oh boy... I didn't know there's contempt for role-playing. Well, from my perspective JK3 has always had two aspects: competitive gaming and role-playing gaming. Of course there are more (such as creative world-building), but these are the two I've spent most of my time with when playing multiplayer JK3. Role-playing has always been a great way for me to satisfy my hunger for social storytelling, and the many community mods in JK3 have allowed for enough expression in the JK world to make role-playing practical in the game. In addition to chat, the extended game features character emotes and animations, and even acquisition and trade of gear and items -- making role-playing in the game a rich experience. I was simply expressing my delight to see the more colourful aspects of multi-faceted JK3 server gameplay returning. I love dueling, and FFA-ing when I want to kick some butt, but I also love the fun, personal Star Wars stories that come with role-playing. (So kill me!)
  17. On a side note it may be worth switching to 3DS Max. I love open source, but Blender plugins seem to be misbehaving quite a lot, depending on how they're written and how they've aged with the new releases of Blender. In my personal experience working with 3DS Max is more stable. Don't kill me, just a thought.
  18. Started on it, though nothing to show quite yet.
  19. It's nice to see the role-playing life returning to the JK gaming scene. Recently there's been a spur in role-playing interest, and quite a few new groups/communities forming as a result. JK's always been practical for role-playing, so it's nice to see this trend returning.

What do you mean by that, @@ensiform?
  21. Well, @@Asgarath83 and I use version 5, but that's truly old, so I don't think it should count. I'll probably upgrade mine as soon as I can get my hands on a recent copy.
  22. *shrugs* Fair enough. Hopefully you'll get around to finishing this one, then. It'd be great to have a Chagrian model in JK.
  23. See, that sounds a lot more inviting. Good on ya! I may drop in for a visit sometime.
