-If the player X is using a comm to contact player Y, other players around player X should be able to hear him talking, but not player Y. Nice suggestion. A few others on the mod team suggested this too. It should be added to the mod sometime this week. -Ability to adjust your saber strength and length. (with certain restrictions of course) Not sure about this one. I'll have to see what others say about this. -Make it so players have to *can* talk to an npc to buy weapons from them. (Then admins can decide where they want the npcs) Interesting concept. I'm currently working on a console based shop, but I may attempt to implement this if I can and if it's decided it would work well. -Make a cvar that allows admins to decide whether players are forced to login to play, or can just can spend there points on feats, gunnery, etc. (For those who want to play the mod, but not RP, for whatever reason) I could do this, but I'm not sure if I would want to, as I'm pretty sure those who don't have the client are susceptible to crashing because they're missing various thingsread Misread this. This won't be done as the mod is meant solely for RPing. Players need to login to an account and get skill points from admins to get stuff. -Make entities pushable, pullable, gripable, etc. There's something like this that was made (not sure by who) called throwable stuff. You spawn objects as NPCs and can push, pull, grip, etc them. -Have the ability to speak quietly in chat or loudly. (Not sure about this one, but you never know!) Already in the mod. The mod currently has yell, whisper, and normal speaking options. -When targeting a player, have to ability to use a command which tells you their player model, level, etc. (Modifiable by admin) I could see this coming in use. -I hope you can make the mod playable solo without running a server, because...well that's another story, but please make it playable solo game!!! This won't be done. The mod needs to connect to an SQLite database to save accounts, characters, etc. In my tests, I think I found I wasn't able to connect to the database using LAN. Making the mod playable solo would require most account based features to be redone. I'm thinking about eventually changing around the database stuff for other reasons, but the mod is meant for RPing on a server with others, so this won't happen. I certainly hope the mod will help new players integrate into the RPG and following the mod's rules rather more than strict server rules. (If you know what I mean) There probably will be certain things that you must do the mod intends you to do it, but I like to keep the mod so that it can be customized and used how ever someone wants it to be used. Preventing abuse of features is important, though. All these suggestions I just thought of today and figured I would post them here. If I come up with any other idea's, I'll post them here Thanks for the suggestions! We're always open to them. If you disagree with any of my disagreements, feel free to try and explain further/change my mind.

A few updates: Giving skill points to others is complete. There's a few issues to work out, but it worked quite well in testing sessions. Thanks to @@eezstreet 's help, changing map music is now complete. You can also play sounds. If you have multiple servers, they can share a single database with account info, characters, skill points, levels, etc. (This feature probably won't work well with regular GSPs for various reasons, but I might be able to do some stuff about that).

Solved Stop Map Music, Play Another Song Command
Fighter replied to Fighter's topic in Modding Assistance
Thanks for the help. I'll try it out soon. -
Basically, what I'm trying to do is make a music command (serverside) that will stop the current map music, and play a song specified by an admin from the music folder for everyone on the server that will loop. I've managed to add the ability to play sound likes taunts, screams, etc from the sound folder: http://slexy.org/view/s20agBvF6H However, this won't let me stop the current map music and play a song from the music folder, as when I try to do that, I get an error that the file is stereo. Could someone point me in the right direction on how to stop the current map music and play a stereo sound file for everyone on the server? Thanks.

That sounds like he's using Tiramisu to connect. I always get that specific error now when I try to use it. If you are trying to use Tiramisu, Kendavi, I suggest using something like Clicks and Whistles instead.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_VheAwZBuQ Yes. IRC would be nice to have, and I'm sure there are some people willing to moderate it. With all of IRC's features and such it'd be easy to use and moderate.

This ^ and because I want to give something back to the RP part of JKA for all the good times I've had over the years as an RPer, so that's one of the reasons I'm making OpenRP. JKA is also an interesting game not really like any other non-Jedi Knight series game as far as I know. One day I was in the music section of Wal Mart and I saw JKA. I decided to buy it and since then I've had amazing experiences and have gained a lot of knowledge about different things. I've met and continue to meet amazing people through JKA. I've sometimes thought how different things would be if I never bought JKA. I would have had different friends, experiences, etc.

Cool. I think I'll try to attend if I have nothing planned already.

I'll be sure to put this on the todo list, thanks for the suggestion . Also, after some feedback, I've decided to make the leveling system simpler. How it will ideally work is an admin will give skill points to a player and tell the player what to put them into. Once a player has a certain amount of skill points, they'll level up (still thinking what levels will do, probably provide benefits of some kind). I've been working on the skill point giving stuff the last couple of days. I've also been working on improving the account system. I'd like to make it so an admin can check what someone puts their points into.

Once player 2 is far enough from player 1, player 2 doesn't see what player 1 is chatting. This only applies to regular chat and not OOC, comms, force talk, or PMs. The chat text currently does not get dimmer as distance within chatting range increases, but that's something I'd like to add once I make sure everything works as intended.

The mod's newest feature: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i1KrqqUp5I I might put up something that shows off the feature from both perspectives.

I'll remove today and test it out when a few people are on the server but not RPing.

RPMod was a big reason for me doing the mod. Some of the mod's developers including myself played on JEDI at some point and enjoyed using RPMod. We noticed RPMod was solely for use by the JEDI community, and other than RPMod, there really hasn't been a mod for JKA that's dedicated to RPers. There is Legacy OJP which OpenRP is based off of, but it appears it's no longer actively maintained. We wanted a mod that has more features meant for RPers, like RPMod offers. We want to create a mod that anyone can use to enhance their RP experiences. As for admin commands, I agree that it depends on the people using the commands. However, I'm going to try and find pointless commands and remove them.
-
Thanks. Some things I'm going to be working on are improving the admin system and improving CTF support. I've found that playing CTF and RPing it's huttball is pretty fun. As for the admin system, whenever I see JA+ brought up somewhere, usually I see people talking about how JA+'s admin system has too many abuseable commands. Anyone who thinks that, can you please say what specific commands you see as abuseable, why you do, and if anything other than completely removing the commands can be done to make it less abuseable? Thanks.

What is OpenRP? OpenRP is an open source RP mod that is being designed for JKA. As the name states, it shall be used for roleplaying, but in addition to this, we intend for the mod to be relatively easy to use, all the while incorporating many features of other mods, in addition to many of our own features. To incorporate features from other mods, we will use code from open source mods (if the author states it is allowed or gives us permission) or we will replicate features from other mods using our own code. This will make for the best roleplaying experience, all the while not having a clunky or difficult to use interface. OpenRP's goals We intend to have menus that perform the commands for you instead of always having to type it out. However, should you want to continue using the console, you are completely free to do so! We further wish for the mod to have useful features, all the while incorporating feedback from its own user-base, to make this modification for JKA roleplay the very best it can be! What features does it have? We are using an account and character creation system (courtesy of Legacy OJP, our former code base), in addition to an administrative system. Our admin system has all the basic commands of kick, ban, silence, and so on, but also has commands to enhance the roleplaying experience, such as the ability to change a map's music, play sounds, place effects(courtesy of ClanMod), place entities(courtesy of JA Coders) and so on. We also have various bug fixes and security enhancements and fixes thanks to our codebase of Razish's modbase. We have added a credits system, which will allow you to buy weapons and items, and possibly in the future various misc items such as food or drinks that increase your health by a small amount. Distance based chat - This means that you aren't able to hear those a certain distance away from you. This improves role playing as chat isn't being added to by others' RPs and helps to prevent metagaming. Faction system - Create your own faction, add or withdraw from your faction's bank if you're the leader of the faction, and see a roster of all faction members along with their ranks that you set. What is planned for OpenRP in the future? We wish to design the menus to look and interact better with the user. We also wish to expand the maximum Force power level to level 5 or higher as opposed to base JKA's level 3. What operating systems will OpenRP be available on? OpenRP will be available on Windows on the day of release. Please note that as of the time of writing, we only intend to support Windows XP or higher. The mod may (and likely will) work on previous versions of Windows, but there are no guarantees. Linux may be supported (serverside only, we don't have plans for clientside Linux support) after some issues with Linux compatibility are worked out. No Mac support is planned as of the time of writing as no developers have access to a Mac or have knowledge on developing for Macs. Can I download a .zip (or similar archive) of OpenRP (pre-compiled) now to test it? Sorry, but currently a pre-compiled version of the mod cannot be currently downloaded. Github does have an option to download a .zip of the code, but it's not compiled. You can however, compile the source code if you want to and use that. Can I develop or help with OpenRP? We are not looking for any new team members at this time, however you can still feel free to contribute code using Git pull requests if you would like to. Thanks for reading. If you have any questions, feel free to message me here, or contact our PR guy, Zaxxeh. Perhaps. I just checked and the gla anims are indeed in the server's base folder. When I've tested OpenRP with others we realized the gla anims caused conflicts with OpenRP's, so we all removed the gla anims from our base folders, but I never thought of removing it from the server's base folder. When the server is empty I'll remove the JA+ anims from the server's base folder and have the people see if that makes a difference.

JA+: clientPlugin_v1.4B4.pk3 OpenRP: OpenRP.pk3 I've been telling the people who noticed these issues that it's impossible too, and they agree it should be impossible, but they're apparently noticing otherwise. Later I'll try to get one to make videos of it with and without OpenRP being present on the server.
-
Yes it does. Nothing needs to be put inside the base folder though, just the OpenRP folder.

Hello, as some of you may know, I am working on an RP mod called OpenRP which is based on a form of OJP called Legacy OJP. I've put the mod on a server and some people are noticing something strange. They have reported that while JA+ is being used, there are conflicts when my mod is present on the server at the same time, but not in use. For example, they have reported hit boxes and such being messed up. They have also reported that this fix works on JA+, even though that's a fix I added to my mod and I'm pretty sure is not a fix in JA+. It seems like my mod's presence on the server is causing this stuff to happen. I don't understand how that could be, as my mod isn't being run but JA+ is. Does anyone here know how that could be possible and how I could possibly fix it? Thanks.
-
I wouldn't really say that's the main reason why people get JA+. I'd probably say it's because of the admin levels and bitvalues so you don't have to give the rcon password to people. It also has clanpass and emotes which RPers like to use, which while they are not necessary, a lot of people like visual things like that.
-
The only reason I like JA+ is for the security fixes and some of the admin commands. A lot of the admin commands are too abuseable and pointless.
