Need help with my soccer/football model

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

Let me introduce briefly: I have been playing JKA for 8 months now and during these months I have been working hard, together with my bro, on creating a football/soccer player.

I decided to make 'Radja Nainggolan, AS Roma, Belgian player'. What we did, was use the model of a jedi/prisoner player and frankensteined a head, originating from Hapslash Anakin by using Blender.

So far, I am quite proud of what we have achieved but in my mind, there are still some things that can be improved.

BTW: this is the only model I play with, so it's worth the effort on improving :)

Here are some screenshots on how he looks now:

My first issue is his neck. Well it's not really an issue but it's something which can be improved and bothers me sometimes.

A few months ago I asked someone to help me remove the gap (weight paint) between the torso and the head because the points wont fit together. Nonetheless I am very gratefull for what he did and the way he fixed it.

But ingame there is something strange going on that bothers me a bit.

Let me explain. When my player is running, you can see that his neck is going down. This doesnt happend when walking though. It will become clear in these two short videos.

My second issue, I encountered when trying to widening his shorts. As you can see in the first screenshots I provided, the short sticks to the leg. Well eventually I though I had figured it out but in the end I couldnt export the file due to this error: Could not load surface hips (LOD 0).

What I did was I selected the circle area of his legs and then subdivided to have more triangles so I could make the pants bigger. In the image below you will see the result on the right leg.

SECOND ISSUE FIXED! THANK YOU Ramikad :)

My last and third issue is also something with his legs but it shouldnt be that difficult I think to fix. Like a real football/soccer player I want to put the logo of the club on the left side and the number on the right side of the short. But because in Blender I can only use one image for both the left and right side of the leg I cannot do this so I have the logo on both sides. Well this would be a nice addition that would make my model more complete.

Any kind of advice/tips/help will be very thankfull!  :)

Cheers,

Issue 1: Weighting problem / animation related, the neck of all models will do that depending on how they are weighted (thoracic bone influence vs cervical, it's something you have to figure out yourself by rotating the bones around and examine deformation in your software and modview)

Issue 2: Sounds like something you did is not playing along with the exporter...but i'm not a blender user so i don't know if it's a "stack modifier issue" meaning you might be deleting the weights from the hips by adding more geo the wrong way (auto vs manual)

Issue 3: You need to un-mirror one side, either break and move part of the island to another area on the UV sheet (if you still have space left) or create a separate texture map + split your hips into two parts so that new part can be assigned a different texture.

Will need more information on what it says in the specific - "Could not load surface hips (LOD 0)" can have a variety of causes.

Like you can see in this picture https://jkhub.org/albums/hggFJ When I select a part of the legs (select three points to get a traingle or more traingles all together) and subdivide it, i will give me more triangles thus more points to work with.

But when I try to export the glm file I always get this error: Could not load surface hips (LOD 0) from blender: non-triangle face found.

I might try to solve issue 3, but I'm to unexperienced with Blender and have no clue about what you said about issue 1 and 2.

Nonetheless I thank you for your advice :)

Try selecting that mesh, enter Edit Mode, select every vertex and face and press Ctrl + T: that will turn all faces into triangles.
