I miss David Tennant though. I just don't find Matt Smith, or Amy and Rory, to be that great. I don't think it's because of them as actors, though. I blame the current writer. The plots have become a little sillier, with more visible plot holes. I miss Russell T. Davies.

actually its officially listed as the first series of "Doctor Who 2005". (my bad was typing 2003 rather than 5 earlier.)

Hence why I said technically....they are basically writing their own series using the lore and cannon so it is it's own thing...but they acknowledge the existence of the previous Doctors and therefore it is also a continuation, and therefore it is not "technically" the first.
