About to invest $160 on a almost 17 year old console that only cost $199 at launch to hook it up to my TV. XD

No, that's way older. I'm talking about a Sega Dreamcast. They had VGA cables that were better than the consoles that came even after them (PS2/XBOX/GC) and you can use that to go to a HDMI upscaler and play the console in 1080p. Even without it the games look better using the VGA cable than the later consoles of the time when on component cables.
