Yes, I agree that it's impressive CGI work, though with where it has been applied it will look quite terrible in 5 years' time -- arguably it even looks terrible now. I also share your desire to see more of Guy Henry's performance. I'm of the firm belief that they should have simply had Guy Henry perform Cushing's role (with a practical face makeover/makeup), and given the new actor a chance to impress with his performance. There's a good chance he would have succeeded...

...and brought us something we haven't seen before. Not to mention that that would look 15 times better in 5 years' time than the CGI does.

That's what I mean about it being wasteful and a poor use of art. Not criticising the SFX team so much as the director's/producers' choices. It was done in the interest of fan service as opposed to the interest and quality of the film.
