  1. Corey Vidal is awesome. He's actually working with Star Wars closely with his latest Star Wars themed videos. I knew of him before this video, when ApprenticeA was just starting. :P

I sometimes speak to him on Facebook, well I don't mean directly i mean he's kind enough to answer people on his page when they speak to him lol.

  2. I know that a lot of people may have seen this before but for those of you who haven't or for those of us who find it fun to listen to/watch then yeh.  This one really makes me feel good and it's one of the songs I sometimes listen to when sitting and thinking of a new lightsaber hilt concept to design and what not :D

Quick run-down of what it's about:  Basically he takes all of the more famous theme songs written and composed by John Williams (Star Wars, Jaws, Superman, Indiana Jones, E.T, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, etc.) and puts lyrics to them.  The lyrics consist of quotes from the various sequel Star Wars movies or references to situations and scenes.   It's quite fun really xD

Look at the top of the video to see which theme song he is singing along to :P

My fav line has to be "Come and help me, Obi-Wan.. X-Wing fighter and a blaster gun..."

  3. I'm not sure if that would need a whole forum. Maybe a thread?

Well that's kinda what i meant like under the "Jedi Knight: Enhanced" section yeh.  When i said "forum" i meant housed within it under the right section, not the actual forum xD

  4. No offense but is it really that hard to replace a line?  Don't get me wrong I've never had to do it so I don't even know how difficult it may or may not be I'm merely curious.

  5. I was sketching a few robes and lightsaber hilts in Photoshop earlier and it got me to wondering why we don't have a concept design section.  Usually people just jump straight into the modeling and what not but I really believe that this thing would be a lot more clear and decisive if there were concepts that we could all look at.

    For example:

Say i designed robes for some characters, wouldn't it be a lot easier for me to sketch out a few concepts and then we all agree what could be improved and what could be stricken altogether?  It would save a lot of time modeling only to have people not even like the design.  We want this thing to be perfect right?  And let's face it, who better to ask than the people wanting to play this?

The concepts don't need to be perfect professional standards as long as the statement is made and understood.  I've just been noticing that there aren't many concept designs at all.

I really see this opening up new horizons i mean we could even re-make the characters if we wanted to.  I've been a pencil artist for about 15 years, just today i drew a lightsaber and then made a 3D model of it from my sketch.

So what do you guys think?

  6. Okay so I'm trying to make some new robes for Jaden (he offered top credits! And i wont be beaten on price!) but whenever i import the model i have to sift through various parts just to find the right model.  Even when I've done that there are often broken pieces of triangles from the geometry laying around.  It'd be nice to perhaps have clean models of Jaden and the other characters.

You know as a sort of template for people wishing to make new robes without having to go through the same process of sifting through everything?  I don't really mind re-skinning the skeleton to the character model again each time i make new robes, I'll just set up the skeleton and save it as a template.

So are there clean models of said character(s) out there or should i just do it myself?

Basically I'd like to be able to have templates for each character in XSI with a pre-positioned rig to go with it to make the workflow a lot cleaner and faster.  As i said I don't mind doing it myself I just figured it'd be nice to have both for myself and other content creators out there.

  7. Welcome!  That's one of the main reasons I've worked with a handful of games engines mainly as a model artist and animator.  It allows us to take our visions and dreams, put them into a 3 dimensional "world" and then allow others to walk around in that world.  It's almost like walking around in peoples dreams (just don't go near any of the stuff i make though...  xD  )

I actually think it's a great gift, to be able to share ones creativity in such a way when many years ago we only really had 2 dimensions to portray it... However i have heard rumors that there is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the The Modding Zone.
