Replacing Stormtrooper NPC's in Jedi Academy

A while back I came across a thread on some forum explaining on how to replace the Stormtrooper NPC's in Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast completely with a different npc mod/model, I've long since forgotten how to find the thread again to see if I could do the same thing with Jedi Academy, So I was wondering/hoping if anyone could give me insight on if and how I could accomplish that, As I want to experiment with different npc models for Jedi Academy.

The easiest way is to read the tutorial provided above by @@Circa. Once you understand the NPC file, extract the stormtrooper.npc file from assets1.pk3, modify it to point to your model, then create a new ".pk3" with the modified NPC and make sure it load last (name it to something like "zzzzz-MyMod.pk3" where "MyMod" is the name of your mod).
