Darth Maul: Apprentice Fan Film

This fan film was in production for 2 years and was finally released this week! It might be the best fan film so far. Really good choreography, post-production, and acting for a fan film.

Admirable effort (cool that it actually finished!) and impressive production.
But, you know. I really have a hard time comfortably watching fan fiction in general.. and, the plot was. Was not? Was. Plot. Wasp lot. I should eat, but.

I feel like at some point watching people fight each other while always spinning on the Y axis becomes not impressive, but cringeworthy. It scares little boys like me when a sword fight isn't enough to impress directors, to the point where it's never enough, and instead of looking for the interesting things a laser sword would be capable of, it becomes a 10 minute circus championship that breaks all the walls, including the fourth. A movie to me is good when I believe what I see, regardless of special effects. I think TFA did this quite well, its plot issues aside. Bootie's lamentations over.

You're right, there wasn't really a plot. I think their main point was to give Maul more screen time, though in the end it ended up being no different of screen time than in the movie. Still, it's the most well-made fan film I've seen.

 

The Spirits of the Force fan films are probably the best plot-wise in my opinion.

This isn't the first movie about Darth Maul. There also was the story, when Iridonians fight each other on the planet, showing some traits of a savage beast. While they fight each other, only one rises. He is not Darth Maul, but rather the most powerful from the pack. He is then confronted by another Zabrak, with whom they have a intense duel, until the latter emerges victorious striking the deformed opponent. We then see, that it was actually a test, created by Sidious to see, whether it was right to begin training with Darth Maul. He then leaves the planet for his assignments. I watched it long ago, so I can't remember the exact story too well.

 

In that case the plot wasn't essential as well, it was about the personality of Darth Maul and a bit of dueling, though not in the same way like in this fan film.

There also was a nice cartoon, that included only two episodes about Darth Maul (released in 2007)
