aramil248 Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 im getting a vps to run a ja++ server off of and i want to know whats the lowest specs needed for lets say a 15 player ja++ server?
jacklul Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 1.5Ghz, 256Ram, 10GB HDD should handle it, at least that is example box I used few years ago, took me like few months testing various companies till I found the perfect host who doesnt oversell and dont place VPS tight on the box so the VPS worked without any visible lags. Most people say OpenVZ powered VPS are rubbish for game servers, in some cases it is true - host puts as many VPSes on the box as possible so sometimes your server might experience 1-2sec hardware lag. If you want your VPS to work as fast as normal server you should search for VPS using Xen technology, it will be more expensive compared to OpenVZ tho. You might also search for some cheap deals: http://lowendtalk.com/categories/offers but please be cautious because some of them might have hidden costs or rules saying that host can take over stuff you put on your VPS, there's lots of legit deals on this site tho.
Mysterious Stranger Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Lots of summer hosts in LEB. Do your review research on them before getting one. Also 9 of 10 hosts there don't allow game servers to be run. What's your budget and location wanted?
aramil248 Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 i have not got the vps yet im just wanting to know what specs it needs to have. can it run off a centos vps?
Didz Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 i have not got the vps yet im just wanting to know what specs it needs to have. can it run off a centos vps? Yes. If CentOS is what you're comfortable with, go with that.

Raz0r Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 $ sudo apt-get install libreadline6I may have to release a version without Lua or something, because readline is a dependency on linux =[
Link Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 If you have root access then just ignore the sudo in what Raz said
Raz0r Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Oh, right, it's CentOS. Perhaps: yum install libreadline6
jacklul Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 so you have vps without root access ?Shared VPS ? Shell account ?
thepolis Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 raz0r you should see if static linking readline will be an option. see this. http://acrmwww.biochem.ucl.ac.uk/software/profit/doc/node17.html
jacklul Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Since when shell account sellers allow game servers... not to mention it is basically bad idea to run game server on vps shared with other people where others can abuse CPU/RAM/Bandwidth.
aramil248 Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 i got it for free i think the ceo is thinking about hosting ja servers since he was the one who offered me it
aramil248 Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 @@Raz0r for some reason every command i put in the server console just makes the server say i even tried rcon in game same thing
aramil248 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 the commands like i put in adminadd and the server just says it
