I look at what Disney had done with the Marvel franchise and especially recently Captain America Civil War which did amazing! But when it comes to solely Star Wars before Disney bought it there really is no difference it's just another company that I can think of that is owned by another company Ex: Pepsi Cola owning Quaker Oats.

So true. It's the quality of the individual content produced, not the company. The true world-building then happens in the minds of the fans, how we all piece it together, what we accept, and what we reject. Bruce Lee had a great quote that actually relates to that:

"Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own."
