KyleKatarn1995 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 George Lucas's main goal in creating the first "Star Wars" movie was to present a sci-fi version of the Akira Kurosawa film "The Hidden Fortress." It's interesting, therefore, that "The Phantom Menace" has more in common plot-wise with that Japanese movie. In each, you have a scion of royalty (Princess Yuki/Queen Amidala) traveling in disguise with a veteran warrior (General Rokurōta/Qui-Gon Jinn) and two comic relief figures (Tahei and Matashichi/Jar Jar Binks and Artoo-Detoo), trying to get home to restore her kingdom. Along the way, they free a slave (a farmer's daughter/Anakin Skywalker) and deal with various enemies and obstacles until winning out in the end. the_raven and Smoo like this
the_raven Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 A nice post, but you realize you dissed Hidden Fortress?
Noodle Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 A very interesting observation indeed, it would be good to analyze the prequels as much as the original triology, since they're full of influences from classic film history aswell. KyleKatarn1995, Aboo and Smoo like this
