What needs to happen for a release?

JK2 is irrelevant at this point in the discussion but JASP still is of course.

Dunno if all of the open ones are still valid or not.

In my opinion:

  • Crash reporting (#141)
  • Custom archive format with metadata like required version (#706)
  • Possibly some form of auto updating; e.g. a launcher (mentioned in #710)
    • A launcher could also include a bug reporting tool
  • Installer which verifies the chosen directory contains Jedi Academy (related to #627, but kind of its own issue)

Maybe #706 is not exactly a requirement for a release, but it's high priority; users need to be able to tell when a mod requires OpenJK in an idiot-proof fashion.

Verifying JA stuff can and probably will happen during the games startup ?

By then it's too late; now the user has to go through the hassle of reinstalling/moving it.

Its not really a high priority.  You have yet to convince me there is anything out there mod wise that is truly broken on base as of yet.  The cvars support is not a new section in the save file.  They will still load just fine just without the cvar being set.  As they are just variables in icarus.

The checks can be done earlier but I think the game should be able to look too as a last ditch especially for people who do not install via installer.

I'm not saying it breaks save games (yet), it just won't work correctly on base.
