McPixel Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Hello, I am McPixel, use the OpenJk with mod Movie Battles 2, quite some time on my Linux Mint 17.1 32bit.But a few weeks I noticed that I can not connect to two servers that are using OpenJK and the mod Movie Battles 2.The servers are "Zona Franga" (IP 54.207.32.73:2970) and "MIAMI NOVICE" (IP 192.157.253.83:29070), both servers belong to a friend, I played a lot on these servers, since the beginning of the year.But only now I have this problem, that can not connect to these servers that are using OpenJK.Me and my friend, the owner of these two servers, we tested several Linux distributions, including: Ubuntu 14, 15 (32bit and 64Bit) Linux Mint 17.1 (32bit and 64Bit)And we confirm that the problem only occurred in Linux Mint 17.1, which is based on Ubuntu 14. I can play on all servers, perfectly, except those that use OpenJK. The Client build of OpenJK that we use is included in the Mod installation package "Movie Battles 2". I know that this problem may be related to the specific OpenJK build used by the mod Movie Battles 2, but if anyone can help me I will be grateful.

Xycaleth Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I see you're running this in VirtualBox. Are you sure your network settings are set up properly? Try pinging the IP address from the terminal (e.g. ping 54.207.32.73)

Remember that I can play perfectly in all non OpenJK Servers, I have problems only in this Linux distro, Linux Mint 17.1 and with OpenJK Servers. You need a screenshot from the game Main Menu?

Try pinging the IP address from the terminal (e.g. ping 54.207.32.73)Sorry, but I'm not running on VirtualBox or any kind of Virtual Machine. My network is perfect, I have problems connecting to these servers only, using Linux Mint. And thanks @farbus I appreciate your help!
Didz Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Can you try connecting with "developer 1" in the console so we can see if there's any network packets being rejected/dropped? If possible it would be great to have a WireShark packet capture with the "udp port 29070" filter so we know what traffic's being exchanged between both hosts. The fact that you got to "Awaiting challenge" after "Awaiting connection" means that the server has responded to you but the connection isn't progressing to the next stage.

Didz Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 That's exactly what I needed For some reason, your client isn't forming the connect packet properly. It's got a load of garbage in the packet where your userinfo data should be (in plain text). I suspect the reason for this is maybe a bug introduced by the MBII OpenJK client in the CL_CheckForResend function, but I can't see any difference in that function on their own GitHub (maybe they're not up-to-date?). If you can show pcaps of this version of the OpenJK client running on working distros though, that'd be interesting. It's weird that this happens only on a certain distro.

Didz Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 OK, analysing that packet capture and the connect packet from the client is similarly garbage, but the server decides to accept that packet this time. This leads me to believe the MBII OpenJK client is encrypting the content of the out-of-band connect packets, but I don't have time to analyse this deeper. My guess is that this new code is broken and only happens to work on some platforms. Bring this up on their forum/bugtracker/whatever they use If this is new code introduced by MBII, I'd be disappointed that they've published a binary release of the client without making the source available as required by OpenJK's GPLv2 licence (But maybe I'm looking at the wrong repository). Maybe there's another explanation for the discrepancy in network traffic.
farbus Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Perhaps in my case the problem was virtualbox. I created a new VM but this time using vmware and i was able to connect to all openjk servers... I did a clean install and i installed only vmwaretools and libSDL2-2.0

I could be wrong, it might be a networking problem in VirtualBox. If the problem happens for anyone else using the "vanilla" OpenJK client, it can be noted as an issue on GitHub to be investigated.

And I still get the same bug, unfortunately.The only packages that I have installed to made the game able to run, are libSDL2-2.0 and the current nvidia binary driver.
