Lighting FPS?

I was just wondering if there are any tips to help keep lighting from causing FPS drops such as using more little lights, few bigger lights, or where best to place them in rooms?

The performance impact is next to nothing. Lighting is calculated offline, so it will only affect your compile time and (if you go really crazy with lightmaps) memory usage.

Hmm I had found using larger light sources and light switches seemed to drop FPS by at least 20 which was rather annoying. I am also curious about the best option for lighting an 'outside' area; you say one large light source shouldn't affect the FPS?
