  1. I do plan on continuing this as I find the project very fun and enlightening. I am currently trying to rework model sounds and also introducing skins into the pack. I would've included the spanki customization mods but they create trouble in the character creation section. I get a "Your ghoul2 has no instance" upon creation and appear as a kyle when finished.

  2. I might have worded that wrong so I'll apologize for that. I know I can't have EVERY model here, but I wanted most of them to use a project to test the limits of JA's model capacity

I don't have all 328 models as some would overlap with each other, but I can say I have about 50% of them at the moment and it is on a 749mb pk3 due to file compression(currently).

Here's the link for anyone wanting to try it out - https://www.dropbox.com/s/b5zrri5h67ose1z/Models.pk3?dl=0

  3. Thanks Ashura! I ended up doing it myself anyway. Was able to put over 200 models with no problems, however some models will not work unless you go through the customization menu. You will also need JA Unlimited 1.1 or JA++ to play SP or to create solo games. The end result was a 749 MB .pk3 file that took 2 hours to do. The over-exaggeration in the thread was kinda pointless and counter-productive, but nonetheless I got what I wanted anyway. If anyone wants the pack, feel free to send me a PM.

  4. You are forgetting that your request is to have a file that is updated periodically. That just won't happen. The best thing you can do is this:

    1. Go through ALL models that are available for JKA.

    2. Pick out your favorites.

    3. Download ALL of your favorite models that you want all-together.

    4. Create a "New Folder" on your Desktop.

    5. Unzip EVERY .pk3 file into the "New Folder".

    6. Go through ALL the files within the "New Folder" and make sure nothing has the same name or uses the same source files as another mod does.

    7. Put ALL files within the "New Folder" into a Zip file.

    8. Open the Zip file, then go to File>Save Archive Copy As> Then save it as a .pk3 file.

    9. Put this supersized .pk3 file into your Base folder.

    10. Run JKA, and load a map.

    11. Spawn EVERY SINGLE MODEL from the .pk3 you made, and make sure nothing is conflicting or have any errors (The Console should tell you if there are any issues with the model once you have spawned it, usually in Yellow lettering).

    12. Make any adjustments that the yellow text tells you (if there is any), and make the final adjustments for everything to work flawlessly without problems.

    13. ??? Profit.

Once you get the pk3 made, it should be pretty easy to keep up with the rate of new models being released. Using the /model command would be more appropriate since some models do not have npc support.

If there's a model with multiple versions, I would prefer the most recent. If there are different renditions of the same model, I would prefer the best and most popular.

Referring to the "Player Model" section of Jedi Academy downloads (if I wasn't specific enough)

  5. And what are you going to do when certain # of bots are reached (I believe 75 is the max) and other issues like to many vehicles (16 max). Not too mention many shader files are named the same which would cause alot of issues.

JA++ and JA Unlimited have fixed these issues

I think what you want is a pack of the best models for the characters you want. You don't need more than 5 anakins, because there is one that is significantly better than the others. It would be more reasonable to make something of a movie battles 2 like pack for sp.

    This would be also acceptable.

  6. If none of them conflicted and worked flawlessly without any errors all-together and you had a computer with enough memory to store it then sure it could probably work just for the purpose of the Base folder being "tidy". But your request was to have one file, and then and continuously update it whenever there's a new model. Tell me; would you sit through 3 hours of unzipping the file, to add ONE new model, then sit through ANOTHER 3 hours of zipping it back up, just for the sake of the Base folder being "tidy"? I know I wouldn't. But if you can find the time for zipping/unzipping it then that's great! Mostly because it is your request for you only, and I don't think other people would do that, they'd just stick to keeping the separate .pk3 files in the Base folder.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard or too time consuming make a file of models that don't overlap each other. MB2 does it on a lesser scale so I'm sure someone out there could do the same.

Think about it this way, if people are willing to waste time working on mods that will take years to release a final product, then what trouble is it to make one pk3 file?

Do you have a link to that Torrent?

    Ask mrwonko

  7. Sure, I can do that for you. Just let me know when you have sent me a supercomputer that can process it all at ultra fast speed and also when you have setup an ISP Service that is a million times faster than the current fastest ISP in the world, then i'll get right on it. :winkthumb:

    a2f3d39265592677d2fec2eccfd1060efa274545

It's not that bad. There was a 60 gig torrent of the entire JK3Files database that took me no more than 3 hours to download. Models alone wouldn't be that bad, especially since I'm only asking for ones from JKA

  8. I already addressed this possibility in my previous post. It is clear that you have not read it.

Nobody has claimed that poke was intended by the devs. From this it is clear to me that you have no idea what you are talking about.

    Re-read it, my mistake.

Everything you said was correct, but what about the older, more experienced (above average) players? I'm sure they worked as hard as everyone else to get their skills, but being able to do extremely high amounts of damage on a consistent basis would still be unfair to a fresh player. It's already unclear as to how they are supposed to go about learning the game, poking just adds another layer of frustration. Since a fresh player would not have the proper aiming skills, wouldn't they have a terrible time without using poke anyway? The game doesn't go in depth enough about it's own skills. That's why I believe the game caters more to the older players. If we must have these techniques without gimping both sides then there needs to be more schools or guides that explain the combat better.

To your last sentence, you can't make a statement like that. Maybe not on this thread, but arguments like those have happened before.

  9. I was asking how the fact that below mediocre players can be successful with little work is something that makes you conclude that poke is bad. Since you refuse to continue, I will do it for you: I take it that since poke enables bad players to be successful with little work, and being successful with little work is bad, so therefore poke is bad.

The first premise assumes what I wrote in my previous post, namely that the overall skill level is so low now that even bad players can be successful. "Being successful" cannot mean being able to win against random bad players because then the fact that the overall skill level is low now would be irrelevant to questions of success. It also cannot mean being able to compete at a high level because no bad player can do that, regardless of whether he uses poke or not. So I guess by "successful" we mean being able to defeat the average player.

But this makes the argument fail in multiple ways: First, the average player uses poke, so it doesn't follow that a bad player can win against an average player solely by virtue of the bad player using poke, because the success-making feature of poke should work for the average player as well, so the argument fails to get off the ground. Secondly, even if the average player were not to use poke, which is false, the bad player would still not win against an average player because (as it has been mentioned before many times) poke doesn't win games on its own. Third, even if it were true that a bad player could beat an average player solely by virtue of the bad player using poke, this would be completely justified. If a game is "easy" and you can be above average with a cheap trick because everyone sucks so much, that's the average player's fault and I don't see how being successful in that sense is a bad thing, so the second premise needs further arguments.

Finally, even if we grant both premises, the conclusion that poke is bad doesn't follow because the argument is invalid. A valid argument would be: Bad players use poke to be successful with little work, being successful with little work is bad, so bad players using poke is bad. I agree that bad players should not use poke, but that doesn't make poke bad, it makes it a bad thing for bad players to use. So the argument fails in every conceivable way.

You overestimate the skill of the average player & my opinion still stands.

People accept it because they were forced to deal with it, regardless if it made sense (and it doesn't). MB2 does not have poke and the skill level is somewhat unaffected. While it does require a different set of skills, it has the potential to be as challenging as the base game. I guess having bugs around for so long, I can see why people would try and defend it as part of the game. It's just like one of those "intelligent design" arguments

  10. "These times". So you think getting good (and implying to reach the top level?) shouldn't require a lot of time and work? I'm sorry but that's just stupid.

    You misinterpret my words.

I'm implying that unless you're really competitive, you will not need that much time or work in order to get better. Especially, since the population has dwindled and the use recycled tactics is more obvious.

Once you learn basics, the game is rather straight forward and you will learn as you fight.

  11. Perfecting it to the level that which you are explaining to me takes too much time and work that I feel is not truely necessary in these times. Rocket jumping/Strafing does not effect the speed of killing a player as it is an entirely different factor. I'm all for JA being challenging and taking skill to master, but there could be a better method than poking.

You're being a little unfair here.  First you say x feature sucks, game should change, then you say mods suck.  Okay well if mods suck then why do you want to change the game?  If you think modding is okay though then we don't have a problem, in fact most of your complaints find closure in various mods.  For example poking doesn't really exist in JKG's saber system and the combat is completely different.  Regardless, you're not going to have a massive resurgence of player numbers unless we get a new game.  Getting a new game means getting a licence from EA/Disney and working under their supervision and approval.  They've got another 2 years of milking Battlefront before they try something else.  You're asking for the impossible, sorry to break it to you.

*No where in my complaints did I say mods suck. I meant certain mods that aren't used by most people in a MP setting (A.K.A. a useless mod)

*JKG <--- Example 1 of mods people don't play

*EA/Disney doesn't care about games maintained by 3rd parties (look up SWGEmu and SWGReborn)

  12. I don't really know why you're complaining in a public forum - do you expect something to be done?

    Wut....

Isn't that how the majority of games with communities operate?

The combat is the only reason why this game is good, the other points don't concern me.

Poke exists since 2004 so complaining about that in 2015 is pretty obsolete.

Regardless of what year it was made, it is still an unfixed bug, and a silly one at that.

If you care that much about killing players with one hit, there are cvars for that purpose.

I know you're ESL, but you gotta admit that poking is awful.

  13. He means CTF. It has none of those problems. Having said that, I agree with all of your complaints, except for maybe #5. As for #1 and #2, one of the reasons jka is so popular is exactly because it can be used as a virtual chatroom so very well. I don't see this as a flaw if there is enough variety to cater to everyone's tastes, i.e. if not ALL servers are just chatrooms etc.

I didn't think people still did CTF. Either way, I'm not a huge fan of the game mode and am more of a deathmatch type of guy.

  14. I've been playing JA for about 12 years and it amazes me how this game is unique in it's own way. Unique, however, doesn't always mean better. There are many things that hold JA back as a game, but these are my personal top 5 reasons. Please take them with a grain of salt and no flaming please.

    1. FFA and JA - Nearly every Japlus server that I've gone to for the past decade either has half of it's players dueling or just chatting and not playing. This game has really botched the meaning of an FFA. If I really wanted to watch people sitting and talking, I could just watch the Star Wars prequels. If it's an FFA, I expect everything to be chaotic and unorganized with very few rules. Another thing is that I have had a lot of people repeatedly requesting me to duel them, especially after I cheesed them in an FFA. Realize that I will not duel you because: a) This is FFA not Duel or Power Duel   and   b) I am not wasting game time focusing on dueling the same guy over and over (even if I cheesed you multiple times).

    2. "Laming" - For those of you who don't know what "laming" means: "Laming is attacking a player with their lightsabers off or with a chatbox up". In other words, you will be punished for playing the game. No where, in ANY game, is there a rule quite as stupid as this one. This would be a better game overall if a rule like this didn't exist. Not to mention it is the the only reason why admins exist in JA.

    3. Combat -The combat in this game is basically Quake with a Star Wars skin slapped on it. Not much thought was put into the actual combat, especially since it revolves around exploiting the system. How incredibly stupid is it that I have to "wiggle" or aim my mouse in a very unorthodox fashion just to be considered pro? I could straight up cheese my way through an FFA just by spamming wiggle and get Top 3 in the scoreboard. How anyone else using this craptastic move does not have carpel tunnel by now is beyond me. Not only does this make combat very bland and not true to Star Wars, but it's even worse that people actually support these moves being in the game. Shame on the devs for not fixing this when they had the chance.  This guy gets it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH_0xyUdD18.

I have noticed the influx of new players (probably from the Humble Bumble sale or because of the new Star Wars movie). I am tired of seeing tons of players just run around and not know what the hell they're doing, get completely destroyed by veterans of the game and complain about how unfair the game is. There is no way you can actually prepare yourself for the brutal catastrophe that is JA's multiplayer. Hopefully, the current set of coders scrap the base combat and create a better system that's fair & easy to learn but requires REAL skill to master and holds true to Star Wars.

    4. Mods - It's nice to be able to customize your game how you want it, but realize some mods will never see the light of day on an actual server. Take custom maps for example. You browse the Files section for all sorts of fancy maps and you find a couple that catch your eye. That's great and all, but realize these maps are only useful when the server has them. Otherwise, there's really not much point to them. Why use these maps when you have no one to share them with? At least using custom models gives you a reason to use them. You can actually SEE them and so can someone else if they have the same model as yours and can potentially alter how your game looks even when on another server.

    5. Player Variety - I understand this is a pretty old game, but I get pretty tired of seeing the same people on the only server left in the game (*cough* KR *cough*). This goes for MB2 as well (I see you over there AOD). I like you guys, but I don't want to see you everyday. With less variety, there is less motivation to change tactics or to get better

    Rant over.
