Tempust85
I came across this, thought it was interesting. This Doom 3 project has support for bink video by using FFMPEG: https://github.com/RobertBeckebans/RBDOOM-3-BFG The RBDoom3BFG Edition GPL Source Code release includes functionality for rendering Bink Videos through FFmpeg. Would this be a legal method for OpenJK projects? Smoo likes this Link to comment
Xycaleth
If we implemented independently then it would be fine I think (I.e. using the same library that he has used). We can base our implementation on his work though because the version of GPL he uses for his code is incompatible with our version. That being said, can we even produce bink videos? eezstreet likes this Link to comment
Ramikad
I can see how the DF2 mod would benefit from this - that is, if it's remotely legal to use the original Bink cutscenes. I seem to recall that turning them to .roq uses up a lot of space. Link to comment
Tempust85
Should be able to use rad video tools to convert from a variety of formats. Link to comment
Tempust85
@@Xycaleth Wasn't at my PC when I posted last, but have now confirmed that you can make bink videos using RAD Video Tools from a variety of formats. Just created one from an AVI. Now I'm guessing a typo here? We can base our implementation on his work though because the version of GPL he uses for his code is incompatible with our version can't yeah? @@Ramikad DF2 videos are .SMK, also known as "Smack" or "Smacker" which is a different codec to .BIK "Bink". RAD Video Tools can read them and can create them though. Link to comment

Tempust85
i tried to add support for ogv and while the video played, the audio didn't lol. Also, the game code sure loves only one video format. Took me a while to figure out how to allow roq and ogv to play. Link to comment
