IF you created your character model using 3ds Max and the version 1.8 dotXSI exporter then you need to delete the v1.8 exporter and download the latest v1.9 dotXSI exporter for your version of 3ds Max. In the original exporter code (and v1.8 changes) the exporting of vertex normals is incorrect which can have bad lighting effects on models. This should all be fixed in the v1.9 exporters. Tempust85
Inverted normals from the old exporter wouldn't give that effect, you'd still have light. Have a look at your shader. Link to comment

Luckxzs
I have the same problem. But since I dont use xsi export on my 3ds Max, that much. I dont know how to fix it, (i'm using glm plugin that keept the skeleton and weighs). I merge the body with what ever I made, and then weight it, export it as glm. Works fine but in game looks like it has no light effect on it :/ Link to comment
Tempust85
You may need to reset the model normals using the edit normals modifier. Link to comment
