afi Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Hi, so since one week ago I've got some strange problem with my internet going on.Once in a while my ping suddenly goes really high and stays high for like 10-30 seconds until it goes back to normal. My first though was a virus but avast didn't find anything. Does anyone have a clue what it could be? Is it possible that my Wlan-adapter is simply broken? No one else is having these problems so it must be something on my computer (Windows 7)
Futuza Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 What have you checked on your router/modem so far? Does the ping only happen on certain games/servers/how are you testing the ping?
Didz Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 By ping lag, I'm guessing you mean actual lag that's affecting gameplay (as opposed to just looking at the number on scoreboard going up, as that's not very accurate). You could try using Wireshark to capture the packets that are happening on your network interface. You could compare the traffic that happens when you don't have lag, and then what changes when you're experiencing the lag. Wireshark is quite advanced to use effectively so you might need to reseaerch interpreting network captures.
afi Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 Thanks so far. It must be something on the adapter or on the driver cause now I sometimes even lose completely connection to the router.
Raz0r Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Try changing the power settings for Windows in general, and also your WLAN adapter. You may need to go into Device Management to change it. I've had similar issues of my wireless dropping out before changing my power settings.
