jedimaster123 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 I'm trying to make a map in GTKRadiant. First the saves weren't working until I unchecked a Win32 setting in preferences. Then I could save, but now when I try to load the save GTKRadiant just crashes. Should I be using GTKRadiant 5 or 6 instead?
undeadslayer Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 @jedimaster123 If you are talking about GTKRadiaint 1.40. then that is the most stable version to date. Make sure you run Radiant in administrator mode. If you are running a 64bit operating system make sure you download and install: Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 also these as well vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe This information is from here: https://icculus.org/gtkradiant/installation.html Good luck.

After many wasted hours I found a solution which was painfully simple. GTKRadiant wasn't saving map files properly until I made sure to add .map at the end of the filename, like save as 'testmap.map' instead of just 'testmap'. I also had to uncheck the win32 load dialog in preferences.
mrwonko Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Yes, it's a known bug in 1.4 that the native save dialog is broken since Vista or so, and the other one requires you to manually add the extension. But I fixed that in 1.6, which to my knowledge is no less stable than 1.4. However, nowadays many mappers swear by NetRadiant Custom (NRC). jedimaster123 likes this
