About This File

Castlevania, home of Dracula Vlad Tepes, This map's layout makes little sense, it was left over from a blackup, the original nearly complete with gothic building, was lost when my main HDD died, this is its released now as is form, Originally a Version 2 to my clocktower map, which can be seen by the file names etc, I didnt want it to go to waste so I fixed a few things up and Uploaded it as a beta

The map was the largest map I ever mapped, on on par of size with Arth's tribal castle (I recomend that map as a download)

with great scale comes great headaches though

Yeah, Castlevania is my back yard, so I'm all for providin' feedback on this thang. One small thing I kept encountering: A very common place error I kept running into was this: GL_INVALID_VALUE in file tr_ext_framebuffer .c:350. Not sure if this problem was localized strictly to me, so if anyone else can confirm, feel free.

Starting out, I just kinda went willy-nilly about the castle from where I started in the courtyard. First interior was that large empty room with the fireplace. First thing I would recommend is replacing that fireplace texture, as it sticks out like a sore thumb. Second, you could afford to expand it to at least balance out the room a bit. Castle fireplaces are usually huge anyway.

I ran through the door to the upper catwalks or whatever and heard rain. Weird, considering I couldn't hear it from the bottom :( Once I got into the Clocktower, t'was very nice, and I appreciate the grandfather clock noise, f'sho. If you spruced up that room, I can see that being like Death's parlour or something.

That portrait to the Master's Chamber was a bit odd, and while I'm on the subject, I know there's practically no rules to Castlevania's actual form, but I figure it's worth saying that the Master's spire is usually a very definitive structure, usually being mostly all turret, and having very little spire to support it. Not really a bug, just nerding out. The inside of the chamber itself was actually quite impressively balanced. I'd just say do something about the black ceiling and there's not much else I can recommend changing.

There's probably 180,000+ things I could suggest, but it's your work, and not mine. Suffice it to say, I do like where you're going. It's definitely a more elegant Castlevania, looking like it's calling off of the N64vania or god forbid, that 3D rendering in SOTN that looked like anal vomit. Either way, I do hope you pick back up on this project :D I wish I could friggin pitch in myself, since I'm a raging Castlevania-holic, but 'tis too late for me XD

Anywho, two cents input, I'm done.

yeah alot of stuff was missing when I decided to revisit it, I had the entire map almost done, with details, the huge room you were in was the Ball room, the Original Map, had a small cemetary, a library, a servents housing or dorm like structure, and the castle had lots of detailing on the outside, to make it look more Neo-Gothical, the portait in the Keep/throne room is from Castlevania judgment, the throne room is based off the PSP Castlevania, but I understand your points really, the bridges in the original were adorned with lanterns and suspension cables, and the one turret originally was enterable, that had an iron maidon and other torture devices, I might re-add these elements back to the map improving apon what ive learned in this year from mapping, and Id like to give Death his own place in the clocktower.

If you were interested in castlevania 64, Darth Zion made the keep/throne room, I also have the unreleased beta for that still, which included the entire stair claimb from the clock tower

Today: the map shows it was peiced together with various artistics, I need to fix that, add more rain sound, etc, maybe even wind when on the bridges as well, the moon in the skybox is in the proper position beleive it or not, but yeah, much can be improved, not bad considering this map as you can tell by the BSP name, was a clocktower v2
