It's all about nostalgia when it comes to ported models. Me myself rather preferred the exact copy back then rather than one made by another person because the ports always looked much better regardless. Although nowadays it can go either way...
All I'm saying is, I appreciate when someone takes the time and effort to make something new from scratch, rather than porting something from somewhere else.
