    Hola!

Good luck on that, my friend!
  2. Hey, that's awesome. Thank you!
  3. I just figured I'd clear this up: No, this is for Jedi Academy. I wanted to make this map look kind of like Kejim Post from Jedi Outcast. Sorry for being confusing!
  4. I'm working on a map for the Warzone mod. As I understand it, this map was originally made by Pande for the JKGalaxies mod. As it is right now, the map is in bad condition; missing brushes, textures, models, etc. But that's not what I'm asking about. This map has what seems to be custom entities: "_decal". Pretty self-explanatory. But I didn't even know that you could do such a thing. And I thought that you could already make decent decals with just regular brushes or patches. For some background for anyone who doesn't know about the Warzone mod: The game code is based off of Open JK, with some custom improvements. Its graphics are based off of the rend2 mod, again with custom improvements. Warzone Mod Topic Here's a picture of what it looks like. These aren't causing any problems, but I'd like to know what they're doing and why they're there. Thanks!
  5. Ah, thank you. That cleared those models right up!
  6. Wow, has it really been four months since my last post? The map is starting to take shape now. I've got a clear idea of the boundaries and what it'll look like when I'm done. There is still a lot of work to do, though. Let's have some pictures! I've got some questions for you, though. First, a technical question. Why are some of the models not lighting properly? How can I fix this? Finally, an aesthetic question. What do you think of these lights I put in at the bases of the walls? Should I keep them? remove them entirely? Only use them sparingly? I'd say the map is roughly halfway done, or a little less. Most of the roughing out is completed, and lighting and detail work is pretty much done in two areas. Hopefully, I'll have a little more time to work on this when Christmas break comes. Enjoy!
  7. This is awesome. Great detail work!
  8. So I've been working away at my projects, and decided I ought to show you how they've been coming. First off, there is no way that I'm going to be able to fix my old map. So I started from scratch, but wanted to keep sort of the same structure of the map. ('Cause I'm lazy and symmetrical maps are easy. ) The difference is already obvious, though. The walls are no longer flat and featureless- they bump inward and outward, give way to computer consoles, pipes, and support pillars. I'm building this more to the Raven standard of Imperial Architecture, rather than canonical Imperial designs. Before I went and did this, though, I looked through a whole lot of reference, and decided to make a few other things. I decided to try and make the bridge of a star destroyer. To that end, I didn't get very far, since the front windows are all sorts of difficult compound angles. Maybe later. :/ But I did come out of it with some useful things. I made a set of grebles (detail objects for visual interest) that go on the ceiling. If you google star destroyer bridge, you'll see what I mean. I built them as close as I could to how they look in the reference plates. They probably won't be useful for this project, but maybe for later. More to come as I add to the new map!
  9. Wow, thanks guys, for all the advice! Like I said, this map is not very close to being done. So I apologize for the lighting and building, especially in the last image. You can also see there a console I forgot to move. Now that I've heard your opinions, I think I'm going to go back and improve this map to a higher standard. This took me off guard. You're right, of course. Looking at some reference from ep4, the games don't really have the same look at all. I guess it's been too long since I've seen the movies! I still like the style of the games, but now I feel I ought to run back through the movies to see what I can take from them. No, this is for JKA. Sorry if I wasn't too clear about that. I'll start working on improving the map to higher standards. I will post back here in a few days with pictures of my progress.
  10. This is a map I've been working on for a few months. I started this project to try to imitate the way Raven built its indoor Imperial environments for Jedi Outcast. I played through the Kejim levels (Which I think are the best maps in the entire series of games) and took rather extensive screenshots of the way they were built. This map is not designed to imitate a particular location, or even to be anything terribly original. It is a symmetrical figure-eight shaped CTF type map. I'm using all stock textures, with a couple ported over from Jedi Outcast. Unfortunately, the entire level is rather boxy and flat. A few weeks ago I discovered a much more efficient way to build detail in levels, and I'm rather disappointed in the way this one is turning out now. I'm still debating on whether I should push through and try to fix this one up, or ditch it and make a new higher quality map. So, tell me what you think.
  11. This is just fantastic. I can't believe the amount of support that this game is still receiving. Too bad the character skeletons don't have cheek bones. I feel like that would go a long way toward pulling the face animations out of the uncanny valley.
  12. I've always been interested in making maps- at this point in time, I would rate myself as proficient, at least, at mapping. Right now I want to get better at using scripts and shaders in my maps. I'd also like to find where all the people are playing online these days.
  13. Hi everyone! I have been a JK2 and JKA fan since I was 12. I first enjoyed downloading maps and mods from the filefront website, and eventually got interested in making my own maps. I was a regular lurker around map-craft and the other old Jedi Knight websites, but never actually joined or contributed anything. When I found this forum, still relatively active and lively, I was pleasantly surprised, and decided, "Better late than never." I hope to learn something from you guys!
