CrimsonStrife Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Provided you release on Steam, its free to use. You can still release on other platforms as well, but you are required to release to Steam.http://www.vg247.com/2015/03/04/source-2-announced-will-also-be-free/
eezstreet Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 If I don't get the job at Raven, I will port Rapture to Source 2, since there's literally no reason not to at this point. No extra costs, the only requirement being that I need to put it on Steam - a platform which I already decided was my base platform - and what I suspect will be a very clean codebase, all of which will be compatible with OpenGL, DirectX and Vulkan...there's no reason why I wouldn't do this. Valve technology has always been the simplest, cleanest and yet most robust tech out there, but there have been barriers to entry with regards to cost. It's now the cheapest engine out there for my specific project. I've also been tinkering with Fallout/Tale of Two Wastelands to see how Gamebyro deals with RPG elements, and I quite like some concepts in use there (form lists, quest management, etc), so I might wind up taking some design cues from there.
Xycaleth Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 If the Source SDK code is anything to go by, it's anything but clean Onysfx likes this
