I'm using ffa3 as my base map and the space is huge. Only problems I met were too many func's (doors etc) but aside from that it's all good. That and the fps can drop pretty bad. You're right that it's not too good if it only works for some people, but I intend it to be say, a clan-only area or a different place to AFK ingame.

oo I didn't know that.
Awesome, it works now, thank you very much. *gives cookie*
Only bugger is if people wanna join in the custom map they have to rename theirs too or download the modded map. Oh well.
(can close this thread if mods want to)

{
"classname" "misc_bsp"
"origin" "-68859 30483 -4380"
"bspmodel" "academy1"
}
Nope I did not rename the custom map's bsp in my base folder. Do I have to?
-
But I see the map in the server as though I don't have the custom map at all. :$ yet I have the custom map in my base.

this (copied from that thread)
The last thing that comes to mind is client-side map plugins, a very fun and handy trick.
Normally when you load up a map on a server all the clients who connect have to have it.
There's a way around this.
You can rename your custom map .bsp to that of a base map and put it in the folder that the assets use for the map in your own pk3. An example would be your could take JSA Trials and toss it into the /maps/ folder of a pk3 with the name academy1.bsp
Then if you use a misc_bsp to connect it to your map along with a teleporter to get there you'll be able to have fun in a custom map while those who don't have it can still connect.
One thing to take note of though is if your custom map in question uses bmodels (doors and so on) in a quantity exceeding that of the base map you overwrote, those who enter into the map but do not have your client pk3 will crash to the main menu.
This is because while the engine can load up a bmodel even if it isn't the one being used, it can not load a bmodel that never existed in the base version.

I've followed Sgt Pepper's tutorial of adding a custom map renamed as a default .bsp to another base map but it screws up for me. I can still see Academy1 or at least an illusion of it, as well as the custom map's entities such as fires, water etc.
Anyone can help out? Sorry if I ain't clear about my problem but I don't really know how to word it.

Such a shame that Magnavolge is so iffy...I cancelled my contract with em today and they offered to let me have a 32-slot for ten bucks for being a long time customer...didn't bite it.
Have you gotten your funds? I can contribute $2...not much I know but... :x
Nope I'm not interested in any admin permissions just wanna see JKA have a new breath of life.

I had folders containing folders containing folders x999, the amount of clicking needed to get to one file got troublesome for this lazy one. xD

Considering your name, I'm more interesting in all that candy you are going to start handing out.
I haven't added too much poison to the candy...
'ere you go. It's cleaned up already I'm afraid. Some icons also vanished off the screen and I can't find them unless I go to the desktop folder which shows 216 icons. Lol.
A long time ago my desktop had 20 icons until well, until I started messing with JKA files...
No I don't use auto-arrange or something like that I hate it

Hmm I don't know why the part about putting in a custom map as a base map won't work for me.
I see Academy1 still, but the fires from the custom map are there. And of course Academy1 is an illusion because when I go to the supposed 'academy' part i keep falling.
-
Heheh are you sure you want to see my desktop, it's got over 200 icons...
-
xD alright you win on that one! Teehee gonna take a while to believe though :p:p
-
I'm not going to debate on that I like to think it's one of those things where some people believe it and some don't. My point is that (whether it works or not) its sneaky for hosts to cut it by half if they assume it works. ))
-
it did work for a few of my servers but at odd percentages. Some old JKA sites also advise com_hunkmegs 128 for incredibly huge maps.
good that you do, i can post one on a couple of hosts , been renting since 2007.
-
Magnavolge sucks. Don't go with them.
Magnavolge cuts down by half the default memory a JKA uses.
Command is com_hunkmegs, default is 64, when you sign up for the server, it's 32 and non-changeable. Doesn't affect your server if you don't run Atlantica or something like 32 players on it but :| it's just short-changing people. Hypernia is another one. I asked 'em before why and they said that's how they offer cheap pricing.
Idk if this is already done (i just registered) but it would be rad to have a review on hosts.
Server Lagging Woes D:
in Jedi Knight Tech Support

Only in the past two days one of my servers started lagging like nobody's business. I'm not talking about internet connection here because I can still do a rcon status and receive instant reply. It's happens for several hours then stops for a bit, then happens again. I had a chance to go in and see the lagometer green area turn yellow then suddenly the top part goes all yellow. 10 seconds later 1mm of green block appears below.
I opened a ticket with my host and they believe that my server is being 'attacked' despite all known patches that I've applied. Later they said they installed a patch that 'stopped the attack from going out' but that the server is showing massive hitch warnings. None of their other servers appear to be affected.
I've tried deleting logs, running default maps...nothing. I could reinstall the server and see if that fixes it but I'd like to know what exactly is going on.
Has anyone ever had such a problem?
' indicates in my host's own words.
