LucyTheAlien Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 I keep getting this error message in Jedi Outcast, I'm not entirely sure what it means but it does cause a slitch hitch here and there and is a visual annoyance. Sorry for being bothersome. Solutions? Message in Jedi Outcast; "com sprintf overflow"
LucyTheAlien Posted December 23, 2016 Author Posted December 23, 2016 When does it happen? Every time a large area is loaded or several assets.
Futuza Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Using a lot of mods? Sounds like you're just hitting the limit most likely. Have you tried it with a clean base (no mods) to see if it occurs then?
Xycaleth Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Usually this happens when your have a pk3 mod whose directory structure is too deep, or the folder names are too long. The full path of every file in the .pk3 needs to be less than 64 characters. If not, you'll get this error. There's nothing wrong with the error (it's not a memory leak), you'll just find some mods you have might not be usable or will be missing textures etc.

Futuza Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 assets99.pk3 is a foreign entity and must be purged! Tempust85 and Numfast like this
Xycaleth Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Assets99 isn't an original asset eezstreet and LucyTheAlien like this
LucyTheAlien Posted December 25, 2016 Author Posted December 25, 2016 Assets99 isn't an original asset Removed that too, unfortunately still getting the error message.
Xycaleth Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 So if all you have in your base/ folder are the assets0, 1, 2, 3 and 5 files then it's an issue with the retail game and there's not really anything that can be done to fix the issue. You'll just have to ignore it.

Futuza Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Nope. Have you already tried the openjk version to see if its any different?
LucyTheAlien Posted January 10, 2017 Author Posted January 10, 2017 Nope. Have you already tried the openjk version to see if its any different? I haven't tried OpenJK for Jedi Outcast. I don't use it with Academy because I use Enhanced, but I was unaware it worked with Outcast.
Xycaleth Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Wait, are you running the Enhanced mod in JK2? I was under the impression that you were running regular JK2 and you never mentioned it until now If so, does it still happen when running the enhanced mod?
LucyTheAlien Posted January 10, 2017 Author Posted January 10, 2017 I'm not using the Enhanced mod in JK2 only in JKA; but it's the reason why I haven't used OpenJK; in fact I think this forum has done a piss poor job of explaining what exactly OpenJK is; where to find it and how to install it.
Futuza Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Yeah, there's a JK2 build too. I never asked, does this happen only on multiplayer, singleplayer or both? It'll probably get its own website with a much clearer explanation once a relatively stable final build is made/completed. Right now the whole thing is a beta product and not really targeted at normal players, because it isn't done yet. At the moment, it's mostly for coders and power users who know how the game works and want to beta test it/find bugs/improve it imo. If you want a detailed explanation of what it aims to be you have to look at the github readme. But I thought this thread is a fair summary of where to find it and how to install it (granted the first post doesn't really summarize specifically what you're asking about, but the rest of the posts in the thread do).

I only play SP. Is there anything else more stable for JK2 that could fix this issue in a similar manner then?
