How do I make a drag and drop sound mod?

I've made a simple modification for sound/interface/button1.mp3 mod for Jedi Academy that replaces the ridiculous select sound. I've actually made this a long time ago, and I've just been reminded to post this here. However I have no idea how to set up a pk3 mod, and I don't think it's a good practice to just directly modify the pk3 yourself. Does anybody know how I can make this into a pk3 mod?
