Jedi Academy Expansion Pack: KNIGHTS OF THE FORCE is a plagiarized Single Player content pack for Jedi Academy assembled by the Turkish developer Tim which featured a wide variety of stolen content. The original goal of the mod was to include battles from the movies, in a similar fashion as what Movie Duels II and Movie Battles II entailed. However, a large number of ethical and legal issues embattled the mod.

Donation Scam and Monetary Exchanges

In order to continue development of the pack, Tim requested that players donate funds in order to help him get a new computer in order to continue work on the pack. A large delay between the next content update and withholding of information from the backers (and subsequent deception from Tim) caused universal criticism and disappointment in the "mod".

Copyright Violations

The original v1.0 release of Knights of the Force contained long clips from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones which could be seen as direct violation of copyright law. No formal action has been taken against Tim for this.

Plagiarism

Nearly all of the content from Knights of the Force is stolen from other mods. All missions are levels created by other people, with a simple ICARUS script thrown on it for cohesion and cinematics. Every player and weapon model in the game is stolen from other mods, and no proper credit was given in the original 1.0 release. The only assets confirmed to original content were the menus, load screens, installer executable, scripts, and translations.

System Abuse

Installer Executable

The installer executable that was packaged with KOTF was originally believed to have viruses in it, but no viruses were ever found in the installer. However, it copied the assets and moved them around, causing considerable bloat on the hard drive. Despite having only 1GB of content in the first release, it required 2.5GB of free hard drive space (not including the original game installation).

Uninstaller Virus Scare

Despite the installer executable not being confirmed for viruses, a number of Trojans appeared within the game uninstaller, which infected the computer of players who tried to uninstall the mod. The third version of the mod doesn't contain any of these viruses, however, as per a JKHub investigation.

Aftermath

Simple discussion of KOTF is banned completely from Filefront. The mod was banned completely from Moddb (one of the only mods to have been banned), and Tim's account was deleted. Simple mention of the name "KOTF" or "Tim" causes ready disapproval within the community. Eventually, Tim canceled the mod's production, possibly due to the numerous legal issues he is currently facing. KOTF's main website has since been locked down from potential comments and any and all assets have been frozen.
