Official Description

These dark disciples are pawns in the Imperial Remnant's bid to amass an army of Force imbued dark acolytes. The Reborn are an unstoppable force; an evil instrument to bring back the ideals of the Emperor, the ways of the Sith and the Empire itself. In battle, the Reborn employ Force powers, lightsabers, and personal shielding.

Appearances

In Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

Reborn warriors are part of the army Dark Jedi Desann created to fight the Jedi and the New Republic forces. They were artificially inbued with the Force, as it was revealed in the experiments with Artusian crystals on Kejim. However, after Desann assumably orders his apprentice Tavion to kill Jan Ors, Kyle Katarn, defeated by the fallen Jedi, flies to Ruusan to regain his own Force powers. The villains then follow the same coordinates to give such powers to dozens if not hundreds individuals, which would become known as the Reborn.

The first such warrior is encountered by Kyle in the lower levels of Cloud City. While he is easily defeated by Katarn, many more await him in the upper levels, as well as in the Imperial-controlled Cairn Installation in the Lenico Belt. A lot of Reborn and shadowtroopers would also be part of the occupation force on Yavin 4 later on.

After the defeat of Desann, a few Reborn would still remain. One such warrior would be captured by the Jedi on Yavin 4, but his ultimate fate is unknown.

In Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

With the outbreak of the Disciples of Ragnos crisis, the Jedi would learn that the cult would be accepting New Reborn into their ranks. Some of the Reborn who served Desann would come to serve Tavion and would duel many of the Jedi in the subsequent battles. Many of them perished when encountering Jaden Korr.

Classes

Reborn can be divided into several classes, which is "designated" by color. All Reborn carry a red lightsaber with dark hilt.

  • Reborn - the most common type with only some powers in the Force. Easily defeated they could use Fast and Medium Styles of lightsaber combat. These Reborn wear yellow and orange apparel.
  • Acrobat - similar to original Reborn, but are quite good at Force to jump and Medium Style of combat. They wear blue cloak.
  • Force User - as the name suggest these would rely more on Force powers than a lightsaber. Force push and Force pull are among their favored, as well Medium Style. They wear red cloak.
  • Fencer - rather than the previous Reborn, this one would use Fast and Medium Styles. Quite proficient in Force Throw. Their clothes are turquoise and green.
  • Boss - the last class and the perhaps the leader of each Reborn subgroup. Not only these warriors could use very different Force powers, but could wield the lightsaber with Fast, Medium or Strong Styles of combat. Their clothers were navy blue, dark red and purple.

Behind the scenes

The standard Reborn skin was originally intended for the Force Users and vice versa. For unknown reasons, the skins were swapped. The change happened late enough in the game's development to where the Reborn's multiplayer icon still displays the Force User skin as the default one.

In mods

Reborn are often used as primary antagonists in many non-official stories for JO and JA. In some cases they are the surviving Reborn with their own missions like in Taryk Kron in Redemption, or a major figure behind a plot against the Jedi in Nina mod. In Communication Force, a group of Reborn uses an ancient device on a graveyard world to disrupt the communications and bring chaos upon the unsuspecting Galaxy. Multiple more Reborn in their classic garments are encountered throughout many other mods.

In a few occasions the Reborn are reskinned to act as other Dark Jedi, including the well-known ones.

Reskins

Reborn is by far the most popular model to be reskinned for Jedi Outcast, most likely due to their appearance. The simple, yet somehow stylish apparel and a hood make them a perfect match for making very different characters. In more than ten years Reborn have seen quite a lot of changes, becoming sometimes Emperor Palpatine, Darth Nihilus, Sith Statue and many other, sometimes bizarre characters.

Interestingly, Reborn are quite similar in their appearance to the Dark Jedi of the Old Republic era, as seen in Knights of the Old Republic. As such they've been reskinned occasionally to be used as these Dark Acolytes in various modification or as simple MP skins.
