The Reality Strikes Back

Well, it's kind of strange to first overhaul the site to contain a new project, and then less than two months away announce the project is dead. But such is the way of the world.

But the truth is that with less than 30% work done, it would still take far too long to finish Lighthouse Pt. Despite the fact that this will mean major amounts of wasted work, it can't be helped. If I continued on, it would just cause more work to be wasted sometime in the future...

I will most likely start a tiny SP map instead, no larger than Syndicate. Hopefully it will fare better than LH Pt...

Breaking the silence with updates

Many updates were made here. I added information about Lighthouse Pt and removed Fate of the Serpent and Deception from the list of projects. Deception is actually again under work by Shadriss, but I'm not involved anymore. Fate of the Serpent will reappear in the future, after the release of LH Pt.

Bespin Range is on the list of my projects in anticipation of its release. Codjax has promised to try to make the missing roffs, and I'm hopeful that obstacle will finally be removed and the worthy project released.

Lighthouse Platinum

Well, I might as well make it official now: My next project is the rerelease of Lighthouse. The project will be called Lighthouse Platinum edition. It will feature totally new or revamped architecture (replacement or new locations), more puzzles, new characters, and a partially new storyline. It will still feel familiar to those who played the original Lighthouse for JO, but will offer sufficiently new material to make it an enhanced experience.

In addition to my own work, the rerelease will feature work by a few select other mappers.

Bespin Range

Whilst Fate of the Serpent is hibernating, I have been busy with Bespin Range, a rifle range map with very advanced scripting. It has been interesting to try to push icarus to its very limits, and so far I have succeeded in doing so. However, the concept was suffering from bad architecture as I concerntrated almost solely on scripting. Fortunately Eldritch has promised to come to my aid, and enhance the visual appearance of the level dramatically. This is jolly news indeed, as it will allow me to allot even more time and energy to develop additional game types for this mini game level.

Forced playermodel tutorial updated

The Forced SP playermodel tutorial went through some significant changes. I have basically the Dark Forces TC mod demo to thank for pointing out this easier way. Although I feel the need to note that I tested it myself when first time developing this method. But for some reason it didn't seem to work. Well, it works now...

Deception 2 Suspended

Shadriss, the leader of the Deception project, decided to put the project on ice due to decreasing time available to spend on mapping, and decreasing public interest in the project. Whilst it's uncertain if the suspense is a death blow, chances are high, unfortunately, as projects rarely are put on hold only to be revived later.

The original announcement at Map-Review forums.

The Fate of the Serpent

Driven by the Dark side, I started a side project that will be a miniature SP level. The Fate of the Serpent offers a glance at the Dark side, and the hard choices the servants of the darkness must make, following their own grim code of honour. The level also introduces the little used Cultist subclass, Destroyer.

Syndic Review

Syndicate: Initiation was finally reviewed at Map-Review, and received a score of 8.75/10. One thing reducing the rating was the fact it used an intermediate version of the rotating tool areaportaling system (the currently available tutorial uses a corrected version). This, unfortunately caused problems for the reviewer. But overall, the level received a fair evaluation.

Small Statistics

After a quick check, I noticed Syndicate has been downloaded 3217 times from the three download locations (PCGM, Massassi, and JK3Files). Lighthouse has gathered 4552 downloads (PCGM , Massassi, and JK3Files) (I added 600 for PCGM for the older version which worked perfectly for many people, and who probably didn't download it again. 600 is a conservative value). Now, Lighthouse has obviously been available for a longer time, but most of the downloads are from the early months. Too bad I didn't record the numbers back then, as it would have helped to compare them in a more sensible way. Neverthless, I dare say Lighthouse got more than twice as much downloads as Syndicate during the first month.

If somebody has wondered why my levels aren't available for download at Lucasfiles, I can tell the simple reason: I cannot do that. My levels contain third party material, and I'm in no control of the copyrights of that material. Lucasfiles, however, demands full, unlimited rights to everything inside the packets you submit there. Thus, I cannot send my levels over there. It's as simple as that. It's a pity for no doubt I have lost downloads because of this.

Deception Cooperation

I have begun cooperation with Shadriss in his Deception project. My main goal is to infest Deception 2 with high amount of clever puzzles, thus increasing the environmental interactivity status of the level. I will also architecturally map some portions of the map. More news and screenshots will be posted in the future.

This also means that sequels to Syndicate will most likely be in a frozen status until JK3 is published. Sadly the low download numbers the first instalment has got so far practically forced this decision.

Syndicate:Initiation is released

The level has been finally released. Check the project page for available download locations. There's also a brief walk-through here for those who get completely stuck. It's been written in such a way that it will leave something for you also to solve, if you so wish.

The Hand of Fate

Finally the day came. I have submitted the level to Massassi, although the state of the contest is vague at best. But nevertheless, the level is now on its way to the general audience. And that means you. It won't take long anymore. Contest or not, the time draws near.
