Tusken Raiders (sometimes referred to as Sand People) are a group of enemies in Jedi Academy, native to the planet Tatooine. Unlike many other enemies, Tusken raiders do not associate themselves with any of the groups.

Appearances[edit]

In JA[edit]

When the Disciples of Ragnos are recognized as the main threat after the Jedi transport incident on Yavin IV, the Jedi begin their investigation by sending their knights to different corners of the galaxy in order to find clues about the Sith cult. Jaden Korr, a student of Kyle Katarn takes a mission to Tatooine to get information about the Disciples from a local merchant. Fearing for his life the informant would sell the droid with this data to local Jawas. However during their trip, Jawa's crawler is attacked by Tusken raiders.

Jaden would have to fight many of these aggressive warriors, which occupied the whole canyon and a few minor settlements nearby. They wouldn't harm the Jawas however, but attack the Jedi at all times. The crawler would be captured by the people of the sand, but eventually it was rescued by the young Jedi, and the R5 unit recovered.

In JK series[edit]

Tusken Raiders are also introduced in Dark Forces II, though it seems they are a bit of different kind – these are known as Grave tuskens, who serve Dark Jedi Maw and under his command they occupy old Katarn's home. Kyle has to fight them in several levels until the first encounter with the Galactic Empire. Grave tuskens also return in Mysteries of the Sith. In both games they wear brown and grey clothes, that differ significantly from their "relatives" on Tatooine.

In other stories[edit]

Tusken Raider is perhaps the first alien enemy seen in Star Wars franchise. In A New Hope they are seen watching Luke Skywalker and C-3PO driving a land speeder though a dangerous canyon in the desert. While the two search for R2-D2, tusken raiders attack the young farm boy, but he is rescued by Obi Wan Kenobi. They are also present in other films, like The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones.

They are also featured in a number of comics and video games. They are a primary enemy force in such games as The Phantome Menace video game (where they attack Qui Gon Jinn and Padme) and Obi Wan video game. In KOTOR1 their backstory is fully developed and they prove to be less hostile in certain situations.

In mods[edit]

While Tuskens appear in JA, fans created a very nice model of tusken raiders for JO as well. This was used as a model on a few maps, and in a mod, which replaces Kyle and Jan in JO.
