Morgan Katarn is a recurring character in the Jedi Outcast. Being a father of Kyle Katarn he appeared several times in different stories, the first being Dark Forces II.
Personality[edit]
Morgan Katarn was born on Sulon, where he spent most time of his life. Since his childhood he showed the signs of Force sensitivity, though he rarely used his abilities. He was also an experienced technician, who managed to build a family droid WeeGee after his wife's death. As a farmer he raised his son Kyle, whom he would send to Imperial Academy on Karida, despite his own allegiance to the Rebel Alliance.
Staying on the rural area of Sulon, he became a de-facto leader of the local Rebel cell, helping fugitives and others to escape from the Empire - this was a secret, kept from the larger Galaxy, as these people were sent to a safe place on the unknown remote world of Ruusan. Approximately one year before the destruction of the first Death Star however, his cell was found by the Empire and its Inquisitors, including Dark jedi Jerec, executed Morgan Katarn along with many other Rebel sympathizers.

When Kyle loses his friend Jan Ors after the fight with Dark Jedi Desann, he tries to return to the Jedi path, regaining his former abilities in the Valley of the Jedi. There a Force Ghost of his father accompanies him, while he is thinking of making a right choice. Morgan warns his son of many dangers, which will eventually turn up should Kyle enter the Valley to regain his Force sensitivity. Keeping the advice in mind Katarn enters the Valley's nexus and plans to have his old lightsaber back as well. For this reason he goes to Yavin IV to meet up with Luke Skywalker.
In Dark Forces II[edit]
Morgan Katarn was killed, while Kyle was in the Academy and serving the Empire as a stormtrooper. Upon learning the truth about the Empire from Jan Ors, Kyle turns back on his former superiors and joins the Rebel Alliance, completing several vital missions for his new allies. A year after the destruction of the second Death Star, Kyle meets 8T88, a droid, which has the information on his father's death at the hands of the Dark Jedi Jerec. The droid also possesses an old data disc from his father, which he hasn't been able to decipher though. '88 doesn't give the time to Kyle however, preferring to work for the Dark Jedi instead, leaving Kyle on Nar Shaddaa at the mercy of two bounty hunters.
Kyle retrieves the disc after dealing with many thugs in the vertical city. 8T88 loses his arm and the disc with it, while escaping from Katarn in his shuttle. The young Rebel agent would then travel to Sulon with Jan Ors to see the message from his father, deciphered from the disc by their family droid WeeGee.
