JA+, also called JAplus is a server-side (and optional client-side) modification for Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. It was created by Slider. It is perhaps the most widely used mod, being used by nearly all social clan servers. Whilst some argue that ClanMod is more focused on a social clan server arrangement, JA+ sees far more use.
For a while, JA+ was not supported which led to the creation of the JA++ alternative, however a patch fixed most of the security exploits and bugs.

Controversy
A number of users claimed that Slider stole code from another mod. Evidence from this is supported by the similarity of commands (some being named exactly the same), and suffering from exactly the same issues as the mods copied from. Slider has adamantly defended himself against this, and it has never been precisely proven that there was code stolen.
In addition, many Base fans have criticized JA+ as changing too much about the saber combat system, increasing blocking and give less of a damage gap between saber styles, rendering the benefits for them all more watered down. This has led to a lot of animosity between the JA+ and Base communities over the years.
Culture
Since JA+ aims to give much more administrative control with handy tools and commands to moderate a server easier, this has led to JA+ server owners as being labeled as allegedly very strict and trigger happy with banning, sleeping, and general excessive authoritative acts. Nobody is certain when this culture became the norm, but it is almost expected as part of a JA+ server's reputation before it is even connected to. This has resulted in a great portion of players avoiding JA+ servers as a rule, due to experience of being banned or treated badly by admins in the past.
The phenomenon known as laming is strictly enforced against on most JA+ servers, and ends up being the source of many of these excessive bans, kicks, or sleeps. Other common reasons are foul language, arguing with an admin, or even using the default "Padawan" after a certain amount of time after entering their server.
