Music in video games is used to create atmosphere and it gives the player something to listen to while playing. The music in Jedi Academy consists of 133 single .mp3 files.

Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy single-player levels use a dynamic music system, which alters between an "explore" and an "action" track depending on whether the player is exploring or fighting enemies. This is similar to the iMUSE system featured in the prequel Dark Forces.

The dynamic music for each map is "coded" in the ext_data/dms.dat text file.
