The Jedi Nations Cup or Jedi Nations Championship (JNC) is a sporadic recurring international tournament in Jedi Academy, in which teams of different nations compete against each other.
So far there were four of these tournaments: In 2006, 2009, 2013 and 2020. Another one was hosted between 2007 and 2008 but never finished.
The tournaments were hosted by the Electronic Sports League (ESL), except for the JNC 2020, which was hosted by the Epic Saber League, a community-driven league for Jedi Academy, due to the closing of the Jedi Academy ESL section in 2019.
While the national teams used to be very exclusive, the decreasing playerbase made it increasingly difficult to find enough players to form the teams.
As a consequence of that, nations with a lot of individual players were allowed to form multiple teams in the last two JNCs. Nations with a very small playerbase on the other hand were allowed to combine their teams, which resulted in teams like Scandinavia or Europe.
Team Alpen (Alps), which is a combination of Austria and Switzerland, is an exception and existed since 2009, due to the very small playerbase in Switzerland, Dev being the only player of Switzerland in this mixed team.
Overall the rules regarding the player's nationality were not as strict, allowing people with mixed origins to play for one team or the other. Neyo for instance, team-Captain of p3-Gaming, who played largely in the German ladders and cups, became the team captain of Greece, due to his Greek descent.
Every team had one captain, a role which players of each nation could sign up for. The ESL admin squad then decided on the captains based on their written applications and their reputation and achievements in the community. The duty of the captain then was to recruit the rest of the players and to manage the team during the tournament.
