The Remnant Plot Part I: Ancient Temple Escape (also known as "The Remnant Plot") is a Single Player modification for Jedi Outcast, developed by Tristan Whalen. Started as a small project with a single map, the mod was supposed to include several later installments.
Gameplay and Story
The mod tells another story of Kyle Katarn, who was returning to a Republic Base on Yavin IV, but before he could reach it, something shoot his ship down. Later, the Jedi wakes up in a dusty prison room. While the place looks familiar, it's actually a lost ancient temple with a dungeon on Yavin IV. Oh his way out Kyle learns a bit about the Remnant plans regarding the area, as well as ancient secrets of a tribe, that created this temple centuries ago.
Development
"The Remnant Plot" was the first map created, as Tristan Whalen mentions in the Readme file. To make the mod he used JK2 Radiant, behavED and Microsoft Paint. He was also open for suggestions, which the author planned to take into account in the next chapters of his mod. He also suggested trying the mod in Soldier Mode – the level plays best in first person with guns.
Behind the scenes
The map was featured on a DVD disc of Game World Navigator magazine (#12, 2003).
The music, which plays in the map, is "The Curse of Anubis" from Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity.
The mod shares similarity both in the title and the setting with another mod – Escape: Yavin IV.
