Revan Vs Malak was an unofficial Single Player modification for Jedi Academy, retelling the story of Darth Revan and Darth Malak before, during and after the events of KOTOR1. It was developed by a group of JKA fans, led by the modders Darth Malak and Master Jedi. The project had been developed for many years, starting in 2004, and was cancelled in 2008.
Gameplay[edit]
The mod was a revision of the events, seen in KOTOR game and described in other Star Wars sources, and presented somehow an alternative view on lives of Darth Revan and his apprentice Darth Malak. The main goal was to show major lightsaber duels from the game, as well as new ones, both against the Jedi and the Mandalorians. Some characters from the games would reappear in the mod such as Bastila Shan, HK-47, Darth Bandon, Saul Karath, Canderous Ordo and many others.
While the mod would recreate some of the plot features from original KOTOR, some new elements were introduced as well. For instance in one occasion it was suggested, that Malak removed his jaw by himself as a sign of loyalty to his master.
Development[edit]
The mod relied greatly on introducing new characters such as Malak, Sith soldiers and Dark Jedi. Master Jedi was the one to create new saber hilts, which would remind the Players the classic weapons from Star Wars films, such as the hilts used by Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi in Episode III-IV. In the beginning Malak and Revan were the only confirmed characters for the project, while others such as Bastila Shan were shown as ported models at much later stage. A few new maps, including a Sith Imperial base and an unknown complex were revealed to be the two of the fighting arenas in the mod.
Other mods[edit]
Revan Vs Malak was one of the two mods, developed at the time by similar JKA community members. The second project was also KOTOR-related and showed the prequel story, when Revan was gaining strength in his struggle against the Mandalorian invaders. One of the missions of the future Dark Lord included the creation of a new Sith army, via finding the planet of Kamino and stealing the cloning technology to recreate the soldiers for future war effort.
