  1. Hello all! I've been secretly modding for some time, and I started wondering about a jumpy subject. The force-jumps in Jedi Outcast / Jedi Academy is very unlike that of the earlier game Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. The difference? In DF2 you have to hold the space bar for a short time and release it to do a force jump. It basically charges up with a (imho) cool sound, before you fly up at a dangerously high speed. If you look at the OpenJK code, in codemp/game/bg_pmove.c you can find the Force Jump code for Outcast/Academy. However, there is also some old code/comments which implements the chargeable force jump of DF2! With some tweaking it's possible to enable it and even the bots have some commented out code to use it (kinda). I really liked the force jump of DF2, even though it can be annoying to fail a force jump. If you look at the movies, it seems most people use the DF2 style force jump. The only exception I can find is Yoda, who can force jump like crazy it seems. Which type do you prefer, and maybe why?

  3. I think that the poll in this instance is relatively self-explanatory. I'm genuinely curious as to what the majority choice would be. If you were to sit down and want to play through a single player series of missions, what would your preferences be?
  4. IMPORTANT I am not calling myself proffesional. This tutorial will not teach you how to model, how to make textures or how to use programs (in case of gtkradiant i moght help you if you will ask me to do it but with blender .. i am a learer ) I will just tell you and try my best to ahow you how my sitting on my ass and make these models and maps rly looks like. If i would make some mistakes (even horrible mistakes.. or someone would tell me i use noobish works ) let me know! I have a question: A long time ago (Before the Gamefront and Filefront service ended for Italy) I used to play RPs on a Jedi Academy map: I remember it was a map placed on an Imperial Starship, which had a bridge, conference room, briefing room, escape pods, Tie Fighter hangar, Crew Quarters, prisons, engineering room, ecc. You had the possibility to teleport to a planet below the ship, wich had some AT-STs, a kind of canyon with escape pods, a rebel base with x-wings and turrets defending and a Lambda Shuttle to go back to the Starship. You also had the possibility to go in space above the ship with droids, the possibility to jump to Hyperspace and use various consoles with sounds (laser sounds, alert sounds, ecc). Do someone know the name of this map? i can't find it anywhere T.T Thanks in advance
  7. Fighting game fans are pretty opinionated about how hit detection is done and it can be a major factor in their enjoyment of any given fighting game. Traditional fighting games use one of two methods, 1) hit boxes, or 2) sprite/model based collision detection. I'd like to hear the community feedback on which hit detection approach you prefer and why. I'm considering whether to improve the standard JA collision detection or switch to hitboxes in Jedi Fighter. Hit boxes Hit boxes are basically collision zones (usually a set of boxes) that define the regions of the character which can cause damage (e.g. a leg during a sweep kick) or take damage (i.e. the head while executing a kick). Some variations on this approach are to handcraft or automatically generate the hitboxes per frame of animation, or to use hit spheres/circles rather than boxes. For the purposes of this poll, hit boxes are any metadata defining collision zones that don't match the model/sprite. Many 2D fighting games like Street Fighter II use hit boxes. Some reasons cited for using hitboxes: - to provide consistency of the hit detection zones during idle animations - to keep a hit box fixed while taking damage during a knockback animation so the opponent can execute chained attacks - to define weakness locations during an attack - they provide a method to fine tune and balance the hit detection Examples shown below: Street Fighter II/Turbo/Championship hitboxes Hitboxes from Garou: Mark of the Wolves Examples of hitboxes in 2.5D and 3D fighting games are shown below. Super Street Fighter IV Collision detection The traditional approach for JA is per poly collision detection using the Ghoul2 animation system. This means that the actual polygons of the model are used to determine the collisions against weapons, once the weapon/projectile has penetrated a certain box around the player. You get whatever the animation gives you. Some reasons cited for per poly collision detection are: - less development effort since collision zones are determined by the model directly - collision detection matches how the player looks, so it appears more "accurate" and "realistic" - it is technically more realistic I don't have any art to provide for this type of collision detection but I think this one is pretty straight forward. I'd love to hear which method you all prefer to play with and why! What is Jedi fighter?
  8. I've been working on some more Skyboxes.. This time 'round, it's the mission in Single Player, where you find yourself teaming-up with Wedge Antilles to bomb and destroy an Imperial tibanna gas platform on the planet Kril'dor. According to the information found on Wookieepedia, Kril'dor is a giant, green, gas planet and is a known source of "tibanna". (Source: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kril'Dor) As you can see below, the base map is very "yellow", bland and doesn't match the colour of the planet's atmosphere. So, according to public opinion and your own personal preference, I'm including a poll in the thread, below to vote on which version of the Skybox you'd like to see released..
