Is there an easy way to record a video of gameplay footage for JA

I want to share a short clip, and found demos to be broken.

I know this post is old but I figured I'd let everyone know that I have a registered version of Fraps that someone gave me a loooong time ago. Still works perfectly fine.

  2. I have dabbled in trying to create my own maps throughout the years. The thing is I do like a million other things in life with other projects and gotta really focus on my main calling in life.

But I had this side project in the back of my head to build a map of my university and prepare it as a gift for my PC/gaming friends for our 10th graduation anniversary next year.

I have all the pictures of the university at the time with the intent of eventually making a JKA map out of it in the future, so this was something really lurking in the back of my head for years. I thought it would be cool to be like "Hey guys guess what?" and we all meet up on the map after I give them the download and it would just be a very cool way to hang out when we're not able to meet up, since some of us have moved away far and wide.

The thought occurred to me to offer up the idea for someone to create the map for me and I would pay them. Dunno if anyone's used to that but I figured I'd take a shot in the dark and we can discuss the details in private.

  3. ungh. I have a habit of leaving a random topic and then forgetting about it months later. I wanted to follow up on this though.

I've gone through with a personal project of mine that developed from using JKA as a machinima. It became a wholly original project as a cartoon instead.

But I always thought about doing some good old JKA machinimas or something of the sort to write/direct Star Wars related material. Another idea was adapting Han Solo at Star's End. I loved that book when I  was a kid.

  4. The thought occurred to me years ago. It's interesting but also there'd definitely be some official complaints or cease and desists or whatever - especially since now Disney owns Star Wars and Disney is the Iron Fist of copyright protection, even when you don't intend to make money off of it.

Still - I always thought it'd be a fun idea to say "fuck it" and start making a machinima where I rewrite the Star Wars prequels. You basically have all the models already and all the maps. You already have all the music down too - just use the same score from the actual prequel movies, maybe fill some gaps with music from the original trilogy. All you really need is a good script and voice actors and Fraps.

  5. I uploaded a bunch of stuff and was about to post a thread with all these links to the downloads when I realized the links weren't working except for just one, and I have no idea why. They lead you to the right URL but nothing loads - just a blank page. Is there some kind of setting on this site or something to prevent people from posting so many links in one post? probably to prevent spam or something?

  6. Hey guys. I haven't been on this site in a long time but I have a new computer and everything and time passed and I figured I'd just get into JKA again whenever I'm bored. Then I realized that JK3files is down and now I read this thread - which couldn't be more appropriate timing. I was just about to share a bunch of downloads I saved from that site from forever ago for JKA. I was also wondering where I could get that old patch update, because since I have a new computer I don't think I have it anywhere.

Anyway. I'm going to create a Mega account and basically upload everything there. I have a bunch of miscellaneous maps and skins.

  7. UPDATE:

So, long story short, Captain Crazy is actually creating the map for the hotel that is to be the major setting of the series. My own girlfriend, an artist, will sketch out the rooms and stuff to help us.

I'm taking this nice and easy so that the end product will be dished out with finesse. We'll be working on ideas and scripts as the map comes along and I will also be in charge of casting people and having voice actors audition for roles. (Those two whom I messaged - what's up? If I don't hear from you within the week I'll be PMing you)

Anyone who wants to help chip in on the brainstorming for the episodes, feel free to jump in.

  8. Okay so with the screen issue, I trued going to setup and it's already on full screen. Maybe I need to check the resolution my computer is running in. Although I never ever changed it once. But I'll look into it.

There's several folders in my "GameData" folder and I'm hesitant to throw them out because I don't remember what they are. Maybe someone can recognize what these things stand for. I assume they are mods.

    "RoA"

    "MBII"

    "jenovamod"

"FFA" - isn't that Free For All?

All these folder have the same three files: "cgamex86.dll", "jampconfig.cfg" and "uix86.dll"

  9. Sounds like a driver or monitor issue. Make sure you're running at your native resolution.

Does this happen on every server? It could be that the server you're trying to connect to is being attacked.

That's intended behaviour. "Create a game" defaults to running a dedicated server accessible over LAN, thus it won't actually run the client.

That could be an issue with a mod you have. Check the console when this happens, it may be giving you a warning or error message there.

Yes, it happens on every server. I tried like 10 servers. I think it's safe to assume it happens for each one.

For the MP console thing - I don't get it though - I used to "create a game" all the time when I just wanted to check out a level by myself that I recently downloaded. Now it's just stalling at the console and not going anywhere.

The funny thing is there is no error message on the console. I scroll up and down and it seems like everything is fine. Nothing is saying anything's wrong. It just stops.

  10. First - for some random reason now that I play JKA, it doesn't take up the full screen. It's stuck on the left side of the screen and is much smaller. In the long run, it's nothing huge. I can still play and see everything. It's not stretched out or anything. But why does it suddenly not take up the whole screen? I tried most of the F buttons, but it doesn't switch to full screen.

Second - the bigger question - my JA plus suddenly stopped working well. I can load it fine, but I can't play any solo games nor can I even connect to any server. However, when I play normal JKA, everything is fine. I can create a solo game, I can play online with others. I have no idea why JA plus suddenly started doing this. I looked in my Lucasarts folder and see all this crap I must have downloaded throughout. Maybe it's interferring somehow? I have to go back and figure out exactly what else I threw in there. It looks like I tried to install other mods too. But as for specific issues with JA plus:

-When I try to connect to a server it says "Awaiting connect. . ." and I wait SO LONG. It never actually connects.

-When I try to "create a game" the MP console stops at waiting for heartbeat. Sometimes other stuff appears after that. But like the above issue, it never actually starts up.

-When I try to play a "solo game", it just sends me back to the main menu. It's a weird issue. I click on "begin" to start up but it just sends me straight to the main menu.

Again, NONE of this happens when I DON'T use JA plus. (Except the weird display issue I described first. That happens anytime now that I play JKA)

  11. So instead of just having a server you want a fully controlled server to play with, sometimes you should just take what you can get and let the magic of editing do the work.

I guess. . . just that some stories are really dependent on the setting of certain maps. I'll take a look at random servers that nobody goes on anymore, see what's up.

Anyone who wants to act great, just say so. If you want to help throw around ideas/write stuff, then private message me.

  12. Years ago (we're talking the first several years JK3 was out) I downloaded a map called "Sunset Keep". I don't remember if it was the exact filename but at least that's what it said at the startup.

It was this fortress-like building ontop of a mountain. The background made it seem like you were ontop a mountain with, well, a sunset visible.

I vaguely remmeber some of the cool stuff you can do in the map. There were stables you could enter and the weapons were placed there. It wasn't very big but still nicely modded. I never remembered where I got it and it's definitely not on JK3 files. Googling it just gets me nowhere. I also tried it here of course and found nothing. It was a FFA map.

  13. This has been dead for a while. I'm sure there are rules about reviving month-old topics but I was hoping to have this keep going.

    Duel map?

A castle in Germany. Not sure where.

    800px-Burg_Hohenzollern_mit_Schwarzwald2

Unfortunately I don't have pics of the interior. I forgot how I came across that pic. But the idea is nice. Reminds me of a map I downloaded AGES ago that I never found again called "Sunset Keep".

  14. So. . . .

So this died for a while.

    Life happened and whatknot.

I was looking around at old bookmarks and came across this. Of course I remember it. My biggest issue is successfully hosting a server. I've come to the conclusion that this game is just too damn old to do that on my laptop. I can run it, sure. There's no problem with that. But trying to host my own server never, ever, ever - EVER works. It's just not turning out right.

I'm still interested in doing this. I'll always be. The top priority is just a place to film - just a server to join and film.

if someone is willing to have us use that, that'd be great. And we can get the ball rolling.

I do have ideas down. I'm an aspiring writer and I wrote a first draft of a sci-fi comedy novel. That and I'm also very interested in doing machinima adaptations of early Star Wars EU books, such as Han Solo at Star's End and Lando Calrissian adventures.

So I'll be active again, vigilant from time to time on here seeing if anyone is interested.

  15. Well, if you can contact the other machinimators via xfire, they can just connect directly via the IP. The server list fails to work for me too, so I connect to my friends by using:

    /connect <ip address here>

Tunngle is also useful for setting up your own home dedicated server. With it, you just have your friends join if they have tunngle, then normally create a game (no need for dedicated here), and they can simply join by connecting to your tunngle ip. Almost like a local game. But this may be a bit confusing, so use the first option I recommended above I suppose.

What's your xfire, maybe I can help you with this.

I thhhhhiiiink I tried that. . .? I'm pretty sure I did. I'm referring to the /connect command on the console. I think it's another issue aside from not showing up on the master list. When I check the status of the server when I play on it, it says on the console that it's not connected. I forgot the command you type at the moment to check the connectivity of the server, but whenever I tried it, the console replied with "server not running" or something like that.

  16. No. That confused me at first becuase the very first person who was interested years ago said we needed to pay for one. So I was like "Okay. . ." and just rolled with it. Later, I found out about setting up your own dedicated server. Like I said in the first post, as it has been for a couple years now, setting up a dedicated server never seemed to work. I never got the server running and showing up on the master list, no matter what ports I opened and double-checking the code and etc, etc. I think I started a thread a while ago asking for help specifically for that. I should check, but I don't think it went anywhere.
