  1. Hello :) it has been while. Any progress mate?

Hey Tompa9, Yeah I'm sorry guys for being away for so long I had alot of work to do . I'm in the middle of a drawing/concept course for games. I spent past few months just going over my foundations and wanted to get back into my projects. I spoke to a couple of you guys on Steam over past month or so about the situation but sorry for leaving everyone in the dark in terms of what I was up to.

Alright so where is Kanan ? I looked over the high poly model and was not impressed with the work on areas and decided to leave that as is as it did burn me out and I think drifted too far away from Kanans' Design. Now im reducing the tri count for Jedi academy and should be mapping by tonight. I'm currently looking over substance painter to do my work on Kanans textures and hope to have some work posted as soon as possible.

Now I will need a hand with trying to get this character rigged and setup for the game as I'm currently trying to get to grips with how this process works with 3ds max so any help from anyone on that front would be extremely welcomed as its my first time .

Sorry again to anyone let down for the lack of updates!

Looks great. Form some reason reminds me of...

Love them designs never seen them before but love them sharp lines/tactical look.

I hope to get some interesting results for you guys.

If I had more time/experience I would do the full suit and armor guns like that.

Only thing I dont like is the little fin on the helmet  in my eyes it starts looking like a baseball cap with not much room to look up/down with eyes.

but who knows maybe soon I'll take on a cool challenge like that as I get faster/better.  :winkthumb:

  3. Hey peeps!   :)

Sorry for late response/release I'm working on the helmet at the moment getting the main parts sorted before I add in all the little gizmo's.

Have to clean up some normal map issues that happens during the baking of such a low poly mesh (756 tri aiming for abit lower maybe 450/500).

Sorry I did not get it sent out for Wednesday like I said kinda fell asleep after work/gym but should be up on the site soon .

I'm probably going to just lay on top of a storm-trooper body just so people who want to use it can have a guide on proportions.

Turning out to be a really educational experience getting to grips with this process as I usually just use sketchfab for my stuff but delighted people might get to use rather than just rotate around it in a viewer for a change.

  4. After picking away at Kanan the past month and a half I decided just to take a quick break for a day or so and have some fun designing and getting used to the pipeline for Jedi Academy before I move back onto Kanan.

Spent the day so...roughly 6/7 hours on this in total I had gotten alot further along but yeah ...Dont forget to save kids!

I designed the helmet mostly from my mind I used the original art for the Storm trooper as a big inspiration and while I'm far from done as you can tell I'm starting to like it. I should have it in the game and ready for download by...Okay I'm going to say Wednesday latest as i need to to get a move on and finish my Kanan project.

Any ideas/changes post them up, cheers!  :winkthumb:

  5. @@Liam What's the polycount of that head and is its mouth modeled shut?

The low resolution+compression make it hard to read.

The polycount as it stands for the head is 484 polygons.

The original mouth was welded its just a trick I use to get better details for the lip projection i recently deleted them for the jedi academy mouth_eyes mesh to fit in nicely.

As for screenshot res yeah I'm noticing the quality does decrease I did touch it up a tad in Photoshop to keep it sharper this time fingers crossed!

  6. @@Liam it seems that you have a few hard edges at the bottom third of his shoulderpad.

Are those supposed to be there?

    EDIT:

Taking a closer look on your pics from my PC now...

his hands seem tiny in the side view

Sorry guys for late reply I have spent a good while now just getting my low poly sorted out nothing to really post render wise on that front.

As for the hands/shoulder pad yep! those are really renders from roughly v12 of the model I have a majority of the problems fixed in the newest one .

Hope to have more renders up this weekend as i do the low poly! .

  7. Sorry guys for the long silence needed a break from Zbrush for abit.

Models is roughly 80% there to do list is mostly boots/his pony tail.

I'll be using topogun for getting this guy game ready which is not such a big task just might take a few days.

Sorry again for not posting If you guys spot anything you think might need correcting just post, cheers!  :winkthumb:

  8. Hey guys sorry for the last few days on no posting. I have had to train new people in work and its tired me out.

Now, I did a VERY very very very very very very quick test on Kanan just messing around with a 2 minutes texture job in painter just to tie you guys over for today as I did promise to update more often.

Please! dont take this as anything other than a junk test model I did to get a few things to work.

The final model will be 1083459857340% better with textures that are not painted with a mouse from a 2 year old its only something for you guys to rotate around and play with.

The model is also stupidly optimized *points to ear* but have fun with it while I keep sculpting and then get started on new topology for the new model.

Also many thanks to Ashura  for the tips I have arms welded now as one pieces and the seams are much easier to spot/fix in my sculpting!  :winkthumb:

  9. oh dang, looks neat but- are you sculpting on a allready segmented model?

that could give you some trouble with getting sculpted details to line up - but maybe zbrush has a few tools to help you there

Yeah , but i'm storing morph targets which keeps the original segments position of the points intact after I sculpt so it works more like a paint job versus a clay one, worse case ill do retopo of pieces that dont match and tweak it , Sorry i did not respond earlier today as soon as i get the main texture modeling done ill ready for rigging with ya if thats ok?

  10. Hey guys REALLY quick update ill probably be spamming here over the weekend with updates but I want to keep you all in the know so I can make changes you guys might think are needed.

Managed to get the main face sorted in terms or forms, need to do the features like mouth/ears/hair/noose properly but moving to a new pieces at the moment so I can get a better look as I go.

  11. Hey guys sorry for lack of updates still hard at work on sculpting Kanan just taking my time and doing it properly. Now I did re-do the head a good few times from scratch and its starting to dawn on me as I keep leaning into how the show looks with elongated features like head and such its just not cutting it with the Jedi Academy style/game I'll be spending the next few days sculpting a more realistic Kanan that is more suited to what I want go with it will defiently look/feel like him just not so dramatic like my previous sculpts. Sorry for the hold up!

  12. Good to see you'll FINALLY learn how to rig a model for JKA after all these years, Liam.

Anyhow, looking good. Can't wait to see this finished.

I thought I killed you...God damn it who let this punk into the forums?!

Nice to see you again mr.Dt we meet again at last!

    S6WF5UE.gif

yeah..well ..yeah rigging lets not talk about that for now    itll get there !  :winkthumb:

Okay I WILL have a render up by morning I had to re-do the head....maybe 4 or 5 times in two days but ive got the bastard now and now the fun begins with eyes and such ill have a render up soon promise!

  13. Looks really cool tompa clever way to match up the best of each artist's work to make something special. the hair looks like the correct length/shape to me and really spot on !  ;)

the glove is a tad bit too dark in the black areas like the gamma is too low . Now that is what its like in the movie granted if you can , get a really light brush colored white at say 20% opacity on multiply and just brush in a few lightspot kind of like this:

    Vig1PGv.jpg

See the parts where the white is brightest just add a stroke or two like that. Abar that man well done fantastic idea/execution !  :winkthumb:

  14. Alrighty Ive spent past few hours re-doing the head from scratch just because I agree with Noodle you cant cant really nail an actor to Kanan as he is on a style of his own,

I'll have a post up by tonight of any progress I make on that part and many thanks to the sound offers, I recently...spent money on  the blurays just to pick good sounds but i'll see what happens.

Ok now in terms if this is ready for everyone , Of course! I would never ever release it to only a select group the whole point is for you guys to have a laugh and enjoy the game and if I help out with my models then fantastic it means I'm doing something right.

I want you guys to pick apart any issues with it and so on so I can learn  and get better at what I do and when I play the game I can say to myself : "Damn this is really well worth it thanks to the community for pushing me."

So have no fear Kanan and any model I make after will be here on jkhub and any place else I can post it dont even have have to ask me that! lol
