Curves 201: Lesson 2
Corridor with a Curved Ceiling

While domes are all well and good, they're only useful in certain situations.  A much more common use for curves is in making curved ceilings for long hallways.

First, craft your hallway.  In my map, I created a jointed hallway running off from the main area, shaping it in four sections:

Next, create a brush in the top corner of one of the halls.  Convert it to a bevel in the same way that you created the bevel for the dome.  Rotate and flip it until it looks approximately like this:

If you're having trouble, it's often easier just to make a cube-shaped brush, flip it to the right direction, and then stretch it how you want it.  You can at this time add an inverted cap, but the problem is that texturing for caps is very difficult to do (if you want to match it up to a brush), so it's preferable (in terms of visual quality and ease) to simply to cover up the end of your bevel with a brush.

Duplicate your curve and place it against the far wall.  You will notice that the two curves clip straight through each other:

In the game, that would of course cause z-fighting, so it must be fixed.  You can see in the 3D View the points that they intersect - this is the point where you want to move the vertices to.  Move the vertices of both so that they intersect along a diagonal line.

Repeat this for every corner, caulk behind them, and that's it!

Add some lights to your liking and compile!
