open jk keeps restaring after changing Video resolution

Delete your openjk.cfg and then try opening it. Then open the console and type:

r_mode -2

then type

vid_restart

And it should use your native resolution. If it doesn't work, make sure you're running it as adminstrator. If it still doesn't work, you may be forced to use 4:3 or windowed mode.

Which build are you using if you can remember off hand?

What operating system do you use?

This sounds like an old bug where the game thinks the window was being resized thus infinitely restarting.. But that's been ages afaik even before the last updated build.

newer builds are not always an option, having a newer builds means upgrading OS which is something i cant do

What is stopping you from upgrading from El Capitan to Sierra? Can't think of anything major they changed that would limit such a thing. Unless your machine is no longer supported?

However, I don't think new builds require the most recent macOS. You should even be able to have Yosemite and be fine.
