Jedi Academy mod: Star Wars ~ Episode VII

Recommended Posts

By qualifications, what do you mean? lol.

What modding experience do you have? Which projects have you lead? If you're just starting out I suggest you don't start with an "Episode 7" since that's a very big project. I don't know of any successful projects of that size for Jedi Academy.

I came up with my idea way before Disney started coming up with their's lol so it's not new in any sense.

According to Wikipedia, Lucas had already planned out 12 episodes for Star Wars. Lucas' biographer believes that Disney will follow Lucas' outlines, so let's hope they really do :P

He's probably asking what modding experience you have had before.

What I'm trying to say is that I want this to be a learning experience for me. I don't learn from tutorials and stuff like that, I learn from someone showing it to me and me applying it to myself...

Well that's a different story then.

I suggest downloading some mods and learning the ins and outs of it all. You need experience before starting a big project like this. We love helping people out with this stuff. Ask questions.

Someone showing you how to do things is exactly what tutorials are. We can't meet up with you in person and walk you through it. Tutorials are the next best thing.

I really might just give up on the idea then lol cuz it would take me a year or two to have the knowledge to do this or even some of it myself and I'll be starting college within a year from now and I won't have the time to be learning how to do this. I really don't have the time now to learn, either. That's kinda why I started this topic....

It sounds more like a request then if you have nothing to contribute other than the idea for it. Which is totally fine.

Maybe you'll get some people that will want to take you up on your offer, you never know.

Sorry to rain on your parade and everything! I hate doing that. :D

It's fine... You think you'd still want to voice a character? lol

I really do hope though that someone will come across this and take pity or interest or something and help make it... I'll just hope and pray

If you put it all together and everything, I might be able to.

Tons of us here would love to help you out with this...it has the potential to be great! But most people like to see some work done and a clear vision of what needs to happen. There are tons of things you could tinker with to get going. We have loads of really great tutorials that are easy to get into and should go quickly. Even mapping is pretty easy to start out with. And as a community, we'll be here to help you through and figure it all out :P

How many missions will there be? What objectives will you complete in each mission? How will you complete them?

Like I said before, the mod would be very story-centered. On Coruscant, the first mission would be to defeat a few bounty hunters that invade the Senate Building trying to kill the Dutchess of Mandalore, Silara Hibliss. Your objective is to defeat all the bounty hunters.

The second mission would be on Dathomir and you play as Luke and your objective is to defeat a lot of battle droids (he is captured after you complete the objective).

The third mission you would play as Yan Solo Skywalker on Dathomir in the battle droid factory and your objective to complete is to defeat all the battle droids while protecting Silara Hibliss, C-3PO, and R2-D2. (Yes, C-3PO does make a comment on how familiar the situation seems but since his memory was wiped after Episode III, he can't fully remember. They are all captured after you defeat the battle droids.

After that, you play as Tang Unala, who interrupts Yan and Silara's interrogation by Darth Corrace. Your objective is to defeat the bounty hunter that is guarding Corrace. The bounty hunter turns out to be Boba Fett.

Once that's over, the war begins and you play as all the members of the Jedi Council besides Luke and drive back the droid army.

First you play as Shorria Maraari and your objective is to simply defeat all of the battle droids in that area.

Next, you play as Felix Adoncatt (he is one of the two New Council members that I have not uploaded a picture of. He is of the Cathar species and is a standard saber user; the blade is orange) and your objective is to clear out the caves on Dathomir with your squad of Rebel/New Republic troops. You will fight droids and a few bounty hunters.

Then you play as Kyle Katarn and your objective is to protect the anti-aircraft cannons while they take out the battle droid ships that are trying to escape.

After that, you play as Elenza Severrn and your objective is to simply defeat a bunch of droids in that area again.

Finally, you play as Aphecyn Shaffit and the objective is to defeat a bunch of droids while protecting your small squad of Rebel/New Republic soldiers.

Then, you will play as Yan and have a lightsaber duel with Darth Corrace/Zaler Nextrin and your objective is to defeat him but you really don't. There would be a cutscene where Yan gets his hand cut off. And then lastly, you play as Luke and your objective is to defeat Corrace but, again, you don't. You just force him to retreat.

Well, that's all of the missions. The rest of it is cutscenes.

Well...Jedi Academy was basically "kill stormtroopers", "kill tusken raiders", "kill Ragnos Cultists", etc. so you know, just saying... To me, the fun is making the non-fighting parts, where the story really builds up. I know there's very few people that share my view in this but I play games for their story not so I can run around and waste time and kill stuff...

No it wasn't.

Let's look at Jedi Outcast:

Kejim Post: Infiltrate the Remnant outpost.

Kejim Base: Exit the base, and learn more about the experiments.

Artus Mine: Infiltrate the mining base.

Artus Detention: Free the prisoners.

Artus Topside: Secure the prisoners and prepare for evacuation.

Yavin Temple: Talk to Luke.

Yavin Trial: Complete the trial and retrieve your lightsaber.

NS Streets: Find and enter Reelo's hideout.

NS Hideout: Find Reelo.

NS Starpad: Disable the tractor beams, blast doors and moorings to the ship. Pump fuel to the ship. Escort Lando and defeat Reelo.

Bespin Undercity: Make your way to the streets.

Bespin Streets: Find Desann and clean up the streets.

Bespin Platform: Find Desann. Defeat Tavion.

Cairn Bay: Find a way out of the hangar bays.

Cairn Assembly: Find the Doomgiver.

Cairn Reactor: Find the Doomgiver.

Cairn Docks: Sneak onto the Doomgiver.

Doomgiver Communication Array: Contact Rogue Squadron in order to get them to blow up the ship.

Doomgiver Detention: Free Jan.

Doomgiver Shields: Disable the shields so Rogue Squadron can blow up the ship. Escape the Doomgiver.

Yavin Swamp: Find the Jedi Academy.

Yavin Canyon: Find the Jedi Academy.

Yavin Courtyard: Defend the Jedi and hunt for Desann.

Yavin Final: Kill Desann.

As you can see, there's actual bullet-point objectives that involve more than just killing people (for the most part). In fact, most of the game can be gone through completely with notarget on and never killing anyone..

That's not the point though. The point I'm trying to make here is that you haven't thought of this like a game. What you're designing is a game, so obviously you need to take into account your game play. In fact, that should be the number one focus if you're making a game. You've talked mostly about skis, skins, skins, and voice acting, when you should be focusing on levels, levels, code, scripts, and skins.

In my opinion, you should make a machinima with custom made models, backdrops, etc. It's going to be a heck of a lot easier to do that.

...How much does Machinima cost? and...I really wanted other people to be able to enjoy it too but whatever. This doesn't mean I'm going to give up on this idea just because one person is dissing it though.

Not Machinima as in the site, but like a movie that's made out of gameplay footage. Two different things there.

I'm not dissing it though, I'm stating a legitimate concern here, that you're not focusing enough on gameplay and stuff that's actually...game-like.

Let me ask you this. What makes you want to make a mod? Why do you want to make one?

How would I make the story I'm wanting out of other video game footage that has nothing to do with my story?...

I want to make this mod because I want people, myself included, to be able to, in a way, live in a time when the Jedi Order has been restored and to play as some really really cool characters and enjoy an amazing story. That's kind of a broad question to ask though...

It's not footage of the game's story. You script it or act it out in MP as your story, with new models/skins, voices, and possibly maps.
